Found it useful for early short tosses with young birds if you let your doos out for a fly before you basket them and take them away.

Last couple of years I've started them at around 15miles after letting them out and not lost many tossing.

yep, that's what we do, it seems to take the steam out them and they are less inclined to go flying all over the place and instead make for home sooner

I was thinking today that its maybe better for the smaller team men including myself not to race youngsters so we have old birds to race because these losses are out of hand now! Maybe train hard which will result in losses anyway and maybe one race just to give them the expierance

personally I have found that if you do not race them as young birds you wil lose them very quickly as yearlings, and I know one of our club members does the same as in he trains lots of young birds without racing them and as yearlings he has lost nearly all of them but there will alwqays be exceptions to that but that is just my opinion and past experience.

Took 45 y.bs first toss this morning.Liberated at Ayr (8 miles) at 08.25 .First bird home 10.04, second bird 11.15. Still waiting on 43. F--kin pig sick.

I think its best to keep them short for the first two or three tosses less chance of meeting the pery and i always make sure the ybs have been out first to take the sting out of them before taking them which is usually in the late afternoon.Plus add a few old ones.

yea i was told to keepo the first cpl of tosses short 5/10 miles or so then start uping it a bit at a time ..il stick to 5 miles for this coming Sunday since its their first one.
