john cumming Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 took the birds for a training toss the day about 15 miles nothing serious, liberated 50 birds at 2pm 20 seconds later, bang!! peregrine straight in amongst them dont think it got any but they birds scattered to the 4 corners, its now 6 pm and im missing 10, getting fed up of this constant hammering the pigeons are taking, beging to think is it worth it?? only wish i had the gun with me as the dam thing would have taken lead???
OLDYELLOW Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 It's the same for most of us i used to be able to train my birds from where ever i wanted these days im limited to where i train them , truely feel for ya , ya cant keep training when this happens i feel that the only thing that would help right now is to change how we race and start later when these birds are on there nests , or a lock up for 5 years for everyone but can't see either happening

john cumming Posted April 19, 2011 Author Report Posted April 19, 2011 It is a total nightmare John. Where did you liberate them? liberated about 1 mile from aberchirder , been back with no problems, turriff tomorrow weather permitting, theres a bit of fog floating around tonight
Fly_caster Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Liberating that many birds together is only asking for trouble ! Try releasing them in 6's or 8's. 15-20 mins. apart - you will then even be able to guesstimate where the Percy's are depending on what bunch was hit and how long it took the others to get home. Better that Percy goes through 6-8 birds rather than 46-48 birds, the odds are so much in favour of the Pigeons in that scenario that it is blatanly obvious that smaller liberations, correctly spaced, will be safer and more effective for you - particularly if you have a round of latebreds bred especially for the cause ! Cheers, Steve
greenlands Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 A cock percy had a go at my old birds yesterday afternoon, either it wasn't hungry or it didn't have a clue what to do.
