lvlasked Posted February 3, 2011 Author Report Posted February 3, 2011 i guess i could grind down some seeds add a bit of water into syringe and maybe helkp her feed them each day just to make sure they both getting somthink ??
Guest big slim Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Hen should be able to feed young, but cocks might take over box when they notice her mate is gone. Soak some beans or peas overnight, add warm water and feed young by hand, about half a crop. This will help hen and they should get enough water from her. When they are small one bean at a time but as you get used to it 2 or 3 will be easy. Good luck with this.
lvlasked Posted February 3, 2011 Author Report Posted February 3, 2011 i have no spare cocks they all paired up now building nests or sitting on there own eggs
Guest big slim Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 I did not mean spare cocks. Any cock will try to extend its territory when it sees a cock is missing.
billt Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Good lesson to be learnt here, why the hurry to break pigeons when you should be concentrating on breeding a good round of youngsters to race later this year and as has been said, hen should rear them OK but you may need to top up with soaked seed, just keep an eye on them.
lvlasked Posted February 3, 2011 Author Report Posted February 3, 2011 hey its been liek 3-4months my bad but i thought it would work he stayed around the loft all day from 11am till 2pm then then took off maybe come bk tomoz ? doult it but i can hop and yer ill top the young bird up each day i guess my bad
lvlasked Posted February 3, 2011 Author Report Posted February 3, 2011 no shes a 06 hen carnt let her out i dont think she break to the loft i got her from jakjak
billt Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 What I meant was it doesn't matter how long you've had the cock as you wont be racing him why take a chance in the middle of rearing youngsters, take your time and concentrate on the youngsters, if he stayed around for that length of time I think you might well see him tomorrow, Good Luck
lvlasked Posted February 3, 2011 Author Report Posted February 3, 2011 my bad i no stupid mistake but i have lernt a lession alrdy ill just have to keep an eye on me young birds
Guest IB Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 hey its been liek 3-4months my bad but i thought it would work he stayed around the loft all day from 11am till 2pm then then took off maybe come bk tomoz ? doult it but i can hop and yer ill top the young bird up each day i guess my bad If he hung around that long good chance he'll be back tomorrow. If you have any birds broken to your loft make sure they are out tomorrow as other birds there will help to bring him down to the loft. Your hen will be OK for a couple of days feeding youngsters on her own, but if the cock doesn't return to them of his own accord, you'll need to go and collect him .. asap.
airdrie2 Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 NEVER HAD A PROBLEM FEEDING YOUNG ON THERE OWN bos pellets soaked overnight or breed and wean soaked overnight if hen stops feeding young you will need to put a siryinge of water in crop as well large siryinge with rubber tube on end as get older some grit to be added also, but hope your cock comes home
geordie1234 Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 After reading this thread i have decided to rear a full round of ybs before trying to break anything why risk it! PATIENCE IS THE NAME OF THE GAME
lvlasked Posted February 4, 2011 Author Report Posted February 4, 2011 ill see how it gos if i have to hand rear them then my misses have to help why im at work but atm shes still sitting on them and looking after them ok
Guest IB Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 After reading this thread i have decided to rear a full round of ybs before trying to break anything why risk it! PATIENCE IS THE NAME OF THE GAME Agree with that one, although must admit to preferring to break pigeons outwith breeding & racing seasons. If you lose the bird trying to break it during these periods you upset the loft in some way: eggs, youngsters, a racing mate etc whereas if you lose it in close season it's just that bird that is affected.
gulkie Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 best time to try to break birds to your loft is when the cock isdriving the hen, a hen that is already broken and vice versa andon a rainy day let the pair out on their own at first, I havealways found this the best way.it don't always work.the hen will feed them, but if another cock shows to her she will abandon them.
lvlasked Posted February 4, 2011 Author Report Posted February 4, 2011 well ill try make sure no other cock gets near her she dont seem to bothered with other cocks atm she beats them up haha well ill try make sure no other cock gets near her she dont seem to bothered with other cocks atm she beats them up haha
