Guest Pearse Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 manage there feeding and i dont think you can stop them from going on neighbours roofs. Neighbours can be a pain in the kneck for pigeon fanicers im lucky enough touch wood
kirky Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 trapping starts as ybs loft does not want to face your house and the furthest you can put it in your garden any that dont come in when you call them dont get fed till next feed thay soon learn, you can then carry it on with obs by calling them in with a few peanuts only give them for trapping and at no other time.
lvlasked Posted February 1, 2011 Author Report Posted February 1, 2011 thats ok then i got peanuts lol and my shed dosnt face the house so im on some sorta roll my birds only get fed once aday and they pairs with ybs in the nest have a pot to feed from to feed there ybs

holmsidelofts Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 To answer the first question:We us a dog training clicker, we introduce this when they are weaned, every-time they are fed we click the clicker, after about a week they associate the clicker with food, when they are out flying and they land on the loft to come in we open up the traps and literally with 10 secs or so we have 80 youngsters inside the loft. I started to use this last year on the recommendation of my good friend owen elliott, and its fantastic and works incredibly well. Its less noisy than a whistle and doesnt get up your neighbours back. The second question:dont feed them if they land on there, after a while with no food you'll soon stop them. If you have one bird thats dragging them down there, send him to the big loft in the sky, dont sacrifice the team for one bird no matter what its bred from. I also dont feed youngsters if they wont come in on the clicker, any that decide to hang around the loft dont get fed either. you have to be cruel to be kind, because trust me if you have a potential winner sat on the loft on race day you'll soon get strick with it. Heres the clicker i use: You can by them from most pet shops, i bought mine from pets at home and also from amazon:heres the amazon link:click here Jas.
benjiboy Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 let them out starving with hunger watch them till they stop exercising rattle tin and call them inthey will eventually come in straight away
yeboah Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 First question regarding trapping , I have cages that fit onto the landing boards that the youngsters go out into during the day ,i have sliding windows with bob wires in the passageway these are put into closed position when i come home from work after putting all youngsters into cage i then fill feeding troughs and call them in ,then go outside with brush handle and cox them through the bob wires after a couple of nights they will be in before you get the chance to go outside ,then remove the cage at nights let them out and when called in as soon as the first go through the bobs the others follow like rockets any that do not do this immediately get no food for 24 hours ,Second question regarding neighbours roofs ,i spent all my days in the country until i moved into the town ,the first year the youngsters would land on the house roof and then walk all over the neighbours roofs, had to get this sorted so they had two choices either fly or land on the loft roof ,so as soon as they landed on the house roof i would stone them or better still a tennis ball ,couple of nights problem solved any trained this way never landed on house roof again unless being attacked by peregrines .Must say the young and old birds trap really well on race days because on ETS they are never handled
REDROCKET Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Its's dead easy.http://s176.photobucket.com/albums/w194/johnnyheague/?action=view¤t=Video0016.mp4 Wish mine trapped like that, the only time they do is when a ba*****d peregrine is after them. Lindsaythats what you call trapping and thats how races are won when it comes to young bird racingin my club, top class and i'd be chuffed if mine could trap like that.
gulkie Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 I have had your problem with the roofs ,if I throw a tennis ball all they do is move further down the street. if they land on the roof I call mine in straightaway, or they starve.they have to be trained as early as pos in life, if they don'tcome in they don't eat.
