Guest skippersworld Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Went into loft this evening to feed the pigeons and noticed a egg laying in the floor and the pigeon off the nest! And the other egg was stuck to the pigeons underneath! Bird was stressed, so i had to take it off! Why would this happen? Thanks.
OLDYELLOW Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 sitting too tight and or egg lacking calcium so has a softer shell
OLDYELLOW Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 solution drop of sand / fine sawdust in bottom of nest bowl add calcium to water , ensure grit and minerals are before your birds
greenlands Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Might have been fighting in the nestbox with a bird who's gone in it by mistake.
sapper756 Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Could have been a stranger cock going into the nest box and trying to tread the hen, hence the egg stuck to the underneath of the hen JMO

Broken eggs is no a big problem for me but when it does happen the signs are the same as skipperworlds, and sure as fate its a dumpling that has broken ma fancy's eggs
Guest IB Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 I'd agree another bird has been in the box, tho not necessarily a cock. It's a nervous time waiting for the birds to settle into their routines, and things like this do happen. The pair will soon go down again, just keep an eye on that box to make sure nothing else has laid claim to it.
alex young Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 sitting too tight and or egg lacking calcium so has a softer shellTend to go with the eggs being soft shelled, seen it before where hen carries one egg from the nest and when it sits again the other egg sticks to the feathering.jmo.
