Guest geordiejen Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 very strange mate.if she is in the same place every time she might have laid an egg and sitting it. could be a silly answer.
JohnQuinn Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 I would have the rest of my hens out every time it was about. Its far more likely to come in with others as on its own.

Sounds like something is worrying your doos at the loft, are you getting cat/fox/hawk trouble on a regular basis? If so you will have to take action against whatever it is. You don't want to go into a breeding season with birds under stress.

I agree John, one bird biding out for 10 days suggests the bird has had a bad fright, if others are doing the same, then something is bothering them at the loft.

Well a hawk went into them a couple of days ago but its benn the first attack in a long time. Are you trying to break your birds after a house move? No we got a new pigeon loft build a couple of months back so can it be due to the new loft they are in
Guest IB Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 No we got a new pigeon loft build a couple of months back so can it be due to the new loft they are in How long were the birds in the new loft and were they shown the way in before you let them out for the first time?
airdrie2 Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 problem at loft craig as i beleive birds had been going in and out of new loft ,hawks ,cats or ps new dog somthing has been inside loft and frightened them out of there wits, maybe the same problem as last years none returns but you need to find out what it is i would set up video camera from bedroom window and watch all the best
Guest pigeonboyno1 Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 How long were the birds in the new loft and were they shown the way in before you let them out for the first time? Well they have been out the loft a few times and would trap with no problems then with the cold snap they werent out for about 6-7 weeks so could that also be a problem. lanarkshire lad Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Well this has been the first time that the pigeons have stayed out this long and they have been scared before but the have came in no problem so its very strange After a long time locked up in the loft they can get spooked very easy first time out especially if they cant see outside from the loft but to stay out for 10days is very strange Never heard of it.

Very strange, going in and out no bother, kept in for a while, then staying out. Does sound very much like they've had a fright, but can't say what has spooked them. You need to do a bit detective work, e.g. look for footprints in snow, listen for any unusual sound etc. Sooner fixed the better.

They were out for 5 days already before a hawk went into them but when i was handling them before i let them out the where very big in the belly so is it maybe over feeding them when they have been left in for 6-7 weeks
Guest spin cycle Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 agree with those that say 'ignore it' don't let it interfere with you're preparation for next season
gulkie Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 I agree with some comments above someone or something has spooked your birds inside the loft you have to find out whatit is , or you wont have a racing season they have to feel safe in their own environment. my birds have only been out about 4times from the last race, which I do every year due to hawk probs.good luck m8.
