sapper756 Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 Almost Two Million Off Sick - And Rising Fast The number of UK workers calling in sick is fast approaching the two million mark each day following the Christmas break. http://news.sky.com/sky-news/content/StaticFile/jpg/2009/Nov/Week2/15445914.jpg Health experts say swine flu is having a greater effect on the under-64s The figures, compiled by FirstCare which monitors absence rates in both the public and private sectors, shows a cost to the economy of £619m in just 48 hours. The headline statistic is a total workforce sick-list today of 1.91 million - a rise of almost 100,000 on Tuesday. The largest contributing factor to the figure was coughs, colds or flu - blamed by 302,000 people who called in sick on Wednesday. That is an increase of 27,000 on Tuesday. Five percent of absences were for non-medical reasons, such as child care
REDCHEQHEN Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 There's a hell of a lot of people with broken limbs caused by slipping on ice - my daughter being one of them. There are also a lot of people in intensive care with swine flu, pneumonia etc aged under 40. I personally have both bacterial and viral infections that have lasted more than 6 weeks
