yorkshirelad Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Who can tell me what strains families i should be looking for,i think i am going to start of pure sprinting which i think is going to be my best way of starting in the sport
Guest bakes Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 van reets van reets, lambrets,Soontjens,Wildemeersch,Van Houtte all good sprint familys
PATTY BHOY Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Even with short race birds you have to put conditions into account. Lines going towards harder weather birds then the general srpint type. Should be bred. So you cover both aspects. Now Any breed strain line will produce birds that do well at the different distance. It is a matter of breeding what you wish to do well in. In young bird racing You would look at a line that matures fast. I have seen the van reet line mentioned. They do well in certion areas. How you train your birds How you care for your birds How you breed your birds and what base line you breed from are all part of a key to doing well. Far as 1 loft races agin it is Breeding, training, conditions on race day and certion amount of luck that day. Find the top racers in your area see what they are flying ask about there methods try to aquire birds from them or from the source they went to. Then the rest is up to your program.

yorkshirelad Posted October 21, 2010 Author Report Posted October 21, 2010 Where you are your best bet would be to build a team for the distance. the reason i was thinking sprint is because of the training flights, with the roads as they are around me it can take 45-60 minutes just to get to carmarthen

Guest bakes Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Hey, when you live up here in Scotland, 325 miles is sprinting i agree brian shore need cracking birds to fly into some areas were members fly to each week hence why i rate the scottish flyers as some of the best specialy the distance flyers when nothink goes for them wind on birds heads working back last drop but they still get them each week shore makes me think i got it easy compair to some flyer that have to fly that extra miles with everthink going against them but main thing they keep on trying and when they get a good un it shore disserved it as birds have to graft no dowt about that to get to some areas up scotland. all the best.

gladiator lofts Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 it really depends on how much work you put in to the birds you only get results if the birds are fit motivated and content in loft myself i race van loons with great success up to 450 miles they also make fantastic crosses so if you crossed them with your own pigeons you would alreadybe half way there i have raced the van loons pure and crossed vand the two or three families i have crossed them with have been successfull and have had winners from day one this year 2010 approx 10 wins 9 seconds 12 thirds 12 fourths and more racing also two weeks running topping federation 1400 plus birds
tommy2 Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Hi Gladiator,Why would you ever think your best way to start would be pure sprint flying, nothing could be further from the truth, start as you aim to continue,go for the extreme distance races, any rubbish can win sprint type trapping matches, why waste money on training rubbish, there are some great distance fanciers in wales, join the gwent greater distance club and let those boys show you the way to go,you will find no better fanciers anywhere.
aye ready Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Hi Gladiator,Why would you ever think your best way to start would be pure sprint flying, nothing could be further from the truth, start as you aim to continue,go for the extreme distance races, any rubbish can win sprint type trapping matches, why waste money on training rubbish, there are some great distance fanciers in wales, join the gwent greater distance club and let those boys show you the way to go,you will find no better fanciers anywhere. think your bang out of order with this comment,it takes time and dedication to win in shorter distances with bigger birdages ie i don't fly in the UNC but to to win out of 20,000 + pigeons from the coast or shorter is a dream come true, each to their own and if you like distance racing then keep your comments for posts in that category,ps i would welcome your comments on what you regard as sprint
