What would you class as an average racing pigeon flyer, and when would you class them as above average fancier. ;)

Above average for me would be in or around the cards every week :)

When every week you hear peeps ask what time is such-and-such in.............. such-and-such is above average

I think 'average pigeon man' describes a way of life. :) And an 'above average pigeon man' describes a way of thinking. :D

So a 'good pigeon man' is a way of doing  and

'an excellent pigeon man' is a habit - of getting a good one every time. B)

For me, a good pigeon man has CONSISTENCY at the main races and can score at any distance, obs or ybs. An average pigeon man gets a good turn now and again but isnt consistent.

average would say a flyer that sends everyweek and not always up top half of print out each week but still gets them and still happy to be competeing week in week out testing there birds as best as they can.

above average a flyer that is always there the one that doesnt matter if its a sprint middle or long distance race there always there everyweek plus they are always timeing in a good bird week in week out the lads that flyers are always asking each week what was the time of your first bird in clock.

but main thing about the lot if you are one of the top flyers in your club, fed, combine and so on or finish bottom of print out or middle of the sheet.sportmanship dont hert no one shake there hand as next week they could be shakeing yours congratulating you after your win.

i think the heading is an average flyer..

i think an average pigeon flyer is one that scores ,not always in the top 3-4 but now and again gets a surprising win.

he turns up at the club and does his share of duties.

Top fanciers have safe reliable pigeons which are well balanced, and also puts everything in to preparations for the excellent health and condition during races/breeding season and the most important Close Season.

i agree about the 'gentleman' and would add 'sportsman'. IMO other people decide what kind of flyer you are....you have to influence them by the results you get. an above average flyer is talked about because of his results.....and its their time thats looked for :)

If a club as 12 members to quote a figure, 24 races a year, fancier one wins 3 races a year, fancier two wins 2 races a year the rest win one each, some win none, is fancier one average or above average, is fancier two average or above average are the others who win one race average or below,

Regards

not quite as simple....how did they do in the classic races? a distance man might not win an 'inland' race...but pick up some good cards in nationals...conversly the fancier who won 3 races might not be bothered about nationals...and concentrate on fed honours

If your talking about the people who win from every distance at every level(not many of them cutting about) as the "top" fliers. Then from what I gather they do differently to the "average"or "poor" pigeon fliers is basically invest more time and effort into their birds.Although they wouldn't really view it as "effort" as its a lifestyle to them.

They are doomen through and through and more or less any spare time they have goes towards improving their birds or themselves as fanciers. Some may not necessarily have as much time as others but the time the do have is usually well spent, doing something of genuine benefit to the birds instead of kidding themselves on.

As for accepting defeat I think its because they don't accept it that makes them above average.Nice if they are gracious in defeat though and nodody likes a BIGHEED.

It all falls down to what you want to get out your birds though. Some people without mentioning any names want to win every race from start to finish and put in the necessary time and effort to do so doesn't make them any better or worst than the man whos happy to see his birds messing round the garden, come home from races and get the occasional good one.

The people I'd have to think of as average or poor fanciers are the ones who expect to win when they are not putting in half as much as the guys who beat them week in week out.As well as the ones who decry those performing better than them and try to make excuses for themselves.

You only get out what you put in :)

A top fancier is a man who sets himself goals at the start of each season and achieves them. An average fancier would succeed in some of his goals and a poor fancier does not achieve any of his goals.

But the WORST kind of fancier is the one who sets impossible targets, reaches none of them, and blames every one else for his failings when he never had the doos or the ability to do it from the start. omo
