andy Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 I always used to think when it came to racing pigeons over 12 hours that it was more pigeon than fancier, whereas the sprint races were more fancier than pigeon. I'm not so sure nowadays <_<

frank-123 Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 Pigeons with slow wing beat and bred from generations of 500 milers . slow wing beat how can you tell if its fast or slow?
Delboy Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 slow wing beat how can you tell if its fast or slow? My son and I are obsessed with how the pigeon flies and most of the time we are correct in our predictions. For the distance races,we have always looked for a bird that flies with the tips of its wings , ie. not using the full wing beat.( IT LOOKS AS IF IT ISNT USING ANY ENERGY )Watch your birds the next time they are out and you will see what I mean
Guest KING BILLY Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 i always find that pigeon that flys 10 to 1100ypm in fast or slow races with littel evert always come to the front at the 500ml races so you could pout it down to wing beat but if you have a loft full of them then you will be nearly last every week at club racing
alex young Posted September 29, 2010 Author Report Posted September 29, 2010 Thanks to everyone who replied to this topic,I don't compete at the distance but still find it amazing how these birds are capable of putting up great performances at these distances considering what they need to overcome on their journey home.atb.
Delboy Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 I didnt say SLOW WING BEAT,I said using tips of wings, in other words, a short wing beat instead of the energy sapping clapping one. My birds are all distance birds and will score at any distance, thats down to management, although a well managed sprint/middle distance pigeon should beat them in earlier races ( but sometimes dont )
andrecrock Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Any good doo will win anywhere frae any distance....... A well know fancier ones told me that strain had nort to do with it,all depends on the spesifc birds carracter and how soon he metuares(spelling???).The fast young birds needs age to slow them down and over time they will do the distance.I will be sending my Jannsens 400 miles as 2-3 year old next season,i might loos them all but needs to be tested and the only way is the basket.

Guest cloudview Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 hi ken ,did.nt expect areply back that quick ,well its a loaded question ,ive never been a scoop man ie measured amounts ,a lot depen ds on the work load you give your birds ,obviosly if your training heavy they need more f00d ,but asarule up to 350 mile its about ounce and a quarter per day ,half ounce in morning three quarters at night ,after this as much as they want, if ive the time i go down the loft prior to the 500 miler as often as possible and try and tempt them with titbits etc, by this time they are on open hole and sitting ,ha ppy and contented which i think is most important ,s orry cant be more specific as nothing is set in stone , obvesation and gut feelings and knowing your birds come into the eqasion as well. all the best stuart
Guest cloudview Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 dropped a clanger the above post was not meant for open forum ,this was a pm to another fancier ,thick or what
novo10 Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 Thats not altogether true m8. Location, wind and drag determine the winners. If you have good doos and good methods and a bad post code you will struggle to hit the top spots.derek come on lanarkshire isnt any harder than west lothian tell me how u make it any harder uve got the same hills as us 2 cross lanarkshire pigeons head along the m8 to you as good a flyin as us
