badgeman Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Just coated my lofts today ,i used green fencing paint and added half a litre of cheap pva builders glue/sealant per gallon stirred in well ,it was dry in ten minutes ,leaves a lovely colour when dry and wont need doing again for years, it cost six pounds for a 5 litre tin of fence paint and the pva was 5 pounds a litre , cheap as chips and a nice colour finish.
greenlands Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 If your going to put engine oil x creosote anywhere near your loft try it on the back first to see what it turns out like.If it's not what you like your not looking at it all the time and you can't get it off.The reason your varnish is coming off when you first put it on you should have thinned it down to allow it to soak into the wood.JMO. Guest strapper Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 be aware shops are fazing creosote out..many shops now dont sell it! soon only companies will be allowed to buy it. summut to do with it possibly causing cancer...or summut like that....but that only applys to continual use with it...in my opinion not your average DIY person, who would just use it once every couple of years.
