Guest bigda Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 why have you got humidity problems a plug in oil heater set at the temp to suit should do the same as
ribble Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I'm no expert but i have been doing a bit of digging and it seem Radiant Heating Panels are best suited for the loft. The ones that were on show at Blackpool were this type and i think the UK agent is Frank Bristow. Let me know how you get on in your search as i may be interested myself.
just ask me Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 i don't know much about them to be honest but as once as the loft is kept at a constant temp all should be ok
jimmy white Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 there was a time when preparing birds for the xmas race, i used 2 second hand very slightly heated towel rails for humidity,,, 50p each,, only in a small section i was sending 4 birds,, that and a red light bulb ;D ;D ;D,, i won [i think 3d or 4th and £750] some queer looks from the neighbours at the red light district,, though, ;D ;D, the scrap merchant i got the towel rails from from, wouldnt give me my money back, after the race ;D ;D ;D,

My way of thinking though. Bet the punters were dissapointed though. Not the kinda birds they were expecting on the red light, He He He!
ribble Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 I have one of these - cant decide whether to use it or not as its just sitting in my outhouse collecting dust so interested on people's experiences with them. If i was to use one i would have it fitted to a Humidistat controller. What size is it and what did it cost?
greenlands Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Humidity ,heat, ventilation,ELECTRIC BILL. I don't know a great deal about putting a heater in a pigeon loft ,I thought better ventilation would assist decrease the humidity if you have a heater in the loft surely you would have to decrease ventilation to increase heat.Am I wrong on this subject, please advise why you require heaters ?.I live in the dampest place in the UK. the Lake District am i doing something wrong,my birds are healthy, droppings ,you can pick them off the perches ????????? Lindsay.
pjc Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Some like to pamper there birds Lindsey, if they can't compete then they'll try all the gadgets going instead of looking in the mirror!
leighton1984 Posted October 23, 2009 Author Report Posted October 23, 2009 heating plates if they come back from race or have been out in the rain from training no good letting them sit all wet all night as they do not move plus if you have a damp week form is lost. but i have been looking at the xtc heating one's same as the sun ray's in loft but they are not cheap but racing is not cheap any more. you can but all the magic tonic's in the bin as they are all crap good clean water every day best thing for me. you let damp in to loft from vents so you have to slow the flow down.
leighton1984 Posted October 23, 2009 Author Report Posted October 23, 2009 vallance i will take it off you hand if you do not want it if the price is right but it must be a xtc one

I notice lofts are becoming more enclosed these days, good ventilation they will dry quickly, the wild birds are out there in the rain, don't seem to harm them
pjc Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 pampered pooche's comes to mind, first hard race and they go down like nine pins!
leighton1984 Posted October 24, 2009 Author Report Posted October 24, 2009 dry lofts race better then damp lofts. i do think if you can control the pigeon's environment you can keep them winning week in week out most lofts are controlled by the weather. use what you can to win it is easy just to keep pigeons but to race them to win most weeks is some thing else. you can have the best birds but if the loft is not right it will be very hard to be consistent racer. if the loft is poor then the flyer has to use more products to help there birds.
