Lanarkshires young bird race from Consett was bad but what didn't help was the full/low cloud cover which young pigeons fail to deal with, not forgetting that 80% of the feds got a terrible race from 5-6 different lib sites. we will be at Consett next week and it will be interesting to see what kind of race we get.

No as I am quite sure if conditions are good for liberating then Consett will be a good liberation site as any other if not better and as Rab has said it is in our race program which should be completed.

Heavy losses Gulkie, we lost 13 from 61 which is not much better but you could have picked any other race point you wanted that day and we would have got hammered as just about every other fed got that day, this i think could have been down to atmospherics and full cloud cover which is a recipe for a disaster.

 

Can i ask what reports you have heard that makes it a poor lib site???

19 from 24 from Thirsk, won club at 10.58, members returns are generally around the 50-66%

 

Timed my LSC exchange pigeon at 11.05 bred by A Blyth this was second club, this hen also won the club from Sedgefield last week.

 

Should have pointed out that this weeks winner is a Frans Zwols hen bred in Holland by Raymond Moleveld which was also 4th club Otterburn.

20/42 from Consett, last one at 7.30pm last night. The Bermuda triangle strikes again. Our fed has tried every racepoint in those areas, Ridsdale, Whitley Bay, Alnwick, Hexham and without fail we get slaughtered there with the youngbirds.

Don't think clashing was an issue for our fed yesterday, we went at 9.00a.m and I think the Berwick pigeons were all away by 7.15 (correct me if I'm wrong) as I posted on another thread last week it's the geography of the area, for some reason it's difficult for inexperienced birds to navigate. As for a solution :unsure: I don't know how to get around it.

Out of all the bad youngbird races from the above racepoints in the last ten years, this one has been the worst for losses for me personally, possibly the birds took the widest part of the Forth and the west in the wind pushed them further onto the sea than they realised and they went past the North east corner here and into the North sea. My early birds came out of the North east to me, straight off the sea

Since flying down the east which must be around about 10 years Lanarkshire have experienced the same thing, after Hexham 90 miles and down to Ripon 145 miles we seldom get good racing, just too many North and south feds using this part of the country. You should think yourself lucky that the North of Scotland get good racing up to 200 miles as after 90 miles were are into the unknown although that said it has been better the last 2 races from Sedgefield 124 miles and Thirsk 146 miles.

If so it would be more evidence that when our fed and aberdeen are down in the north east of england the youngsters can quite easily misjudge their line and end up going past the North east of Scotland coast and away into the North sea. Food for thought there I think.
