rasbull Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Just had my missing youngster return from yesterdays training toss. It has suffered a broken ankle. Any tips on best way to deal with it? There is nothing to splint really so just going to leave and hope it heals up. Anyone got any other ideas? It is the ring leg and is quite swollen so will have to observe the ring doesn't become too tight with the swelling
greenlands Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Give its leg a good soak with witch hazel and put it in a nest box or some where quiet with plenty of shavings for it to rest on,obviously provide with food and water.Lindsay.
Roland Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Aldi's elastoplas- great sticking. Them some sellotape. This is as good as a splint. Remove a couple of weeks later via careful soapy water.
REDCHEQHEN Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 One of our old birds broke just above the ankle - it was splinted - but kept coming off - so was allowed to heal naturally - however the bones 'healed' side by side, it's the ETS ring leg - and the ETS ring stands on top of the lower bone - not ideal - the ETS ring had to be removed to allow to heal because of the original swelling So do keep your eyes on the swelling
