Delboy Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 I have noticed in my 38 years of keeping pigeons that every time we have a late liberation, with the first birds expected home in the evening, we experience a very good race. I think this is food for thought for all race controllers. Whats your thoughts on this ?
Mr Yorkie Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 Great with old birds, not always so with young birds. Our fed covers a large area with the longest flyers about 50 miles further south than the northern most ones. It isn't always fair on them when their birds have another hour or so's flying to do at such a late time in the day. The later birds will almost certainly end up with a night out.

dava Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 got to agree with what derek says about the later libs we always seem to get a decent race .cant think of a better race at 130 miles we young birds for a long time although there still some awol its def food for thought for all race controllers

dava Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 i think we should still basket on a friday night as it gives the birds plenty of time to settle at the lib point and get a drink going on a saturday is to much of a rush imo

JohnQuinn Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 It takes 2 transporters roughly 4 hrs to collect Lanarkshire birds on a Friday night so Saturday basketing is not an option for us.

Obviously they had plenty of time to get hydrated while waiting on lib. This is another plus
