Pompey Mick Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 I have just been reading the NFC St Nazaire result and I could not believe my eyes when I saw the amount of OPEN prize money on offer. £15.00 for FIRST OPEN, an insult if I ever saw one,an embarrassment to the sport when one of the sports oldest institutions offer such a paltry amount to the winner of one of their races. But it doesn't end there, for positions 16th to 20th they are paying out the staggering amount of 75 pence, that's £0.75, a derisory amount. How has this once great club allowed this to happen? In todays society everything has a value, whenever you talk to non-fanciers about winning prestigous races the first thing they want to know is ' How much have you won?' I feel really sorry for Messrs Prettejohn when they have to tell people that they won the princely amount of £15.00 prizemoney for what is an excellent performance. If the National Flying Club ever hopes to regain it's former glory it has to start by offering decent prizemoney for it's races not the pittance that is currently on offer, a rescue package is needed forthwith to restore confidence in the Club, starting as soon as possible.
rockinrick Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 omg wat a farce , it makes u think , why bother ?
pender Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 you could look it the other way winning a nat is worth more than any amount of prize money, i not sure myself if i would do what the belgiums do and not have any prizemoney at all, if you want to win money it would be up to the members to gamble.
Guest Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 well somebody has to pay for the new Transporters <VBG>
Guest Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 SNFC PRIZE MONEY FOR ALENCON WAS £1,000 FOR 1ST OPEN AND TOURS £500 LAST YEAR

peterpau Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Bit of a shambles Mick. I haven't been well, so I sent an e mail to the sec, asking a question. All I got was, see your rule book. Our birds will be going to Bordeaux and Sennen cove. Then I don't see us being members next year. Think I will join BICC and BBC instead. So I hope they can afford to pay for that nice transporter.
DRIES Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 I'VE JUST WRITTEN MY LETTER OF RESIGNATION, THE NFC ARE A COMPLETE JOKE , THEY HAVE BEEN BLED DRY , ALSO THEY HAVE TO COVER THE RENT ON THE 2 NEW COCA COLA LORRIES THEY USE. THE CLUB HAS BECOME A JOKE , NEARLY ALL MY CLUB ARE RESINING FROM NFC , HEARD A RUMOUR THAT THE SUBS ARE GOING UP BIG TIME. JOIN BICC AND BBC INSTEAD.
rlez Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 its not the money we win but the performance and the challenge of long distance racing that counts.let me time in from 600+ and you can keep all the prize money lez
sj irving jnr Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 how much is it a bird to go to pau with the nfc?
Guest ben Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Can`t agree with you there mick,if the chap intrested in money, and he thinks his birds good enough, play the pools, ganeteed prizemoney so out of date much the same as NFC averages, always aranged to suite the big flyers who can`t pick their pigeons, the country needs a big shakeup,.
richard Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Dunno about Pau, but its 6 quid a bird for Bordeaux plus 10p a bird marking fee! The BBC is at the same racepoint the same weekend for £3-50 a bird! Nuff said Cheers Richard
Guest Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 6 quid a bird plus marking fee, bleeding USUARY
David Swain Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 £3.50 a bird for tomorrow's 100-mile flip from St Malo is bad enough - and you can't even use it as preparation for Bordeaux or you break the 7-day rule ! What are the NFC playing at ?
Pompey Mick Posted July 14, 2006 Author Report Posted July 14, 2006 I agree that winning the NFC is worth far more than money, but if they are offering prize money doesn't everyone agree it should be of an amount that befits a National. I mean £15,00 1st Prize just devalues the race in other peoples eyes, especially non-fanciers, and 75p for the lower prizes is just unbelievable, it costs more to send the cheque. If this is what the 'rules' dictate then the NFC need to change them PDQ.
DRIES Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 MICK YOUR DAMN RIGHT THE PEOPLE THAT WON THE 75P SHOULD SEND THE CHEQUE BACK AND TELL THEM TO STICK IT WERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE. THEY SHOULD RENAME THE NFC . THE NORTHERN FLYING CLUB COS THEY DON'T GIVE A sh** ABOUT SOUTHERN FANCIERS. I REALLY HOPE THE NATIONAL GOES SKINT AND DISBANDS THEY DESERVE IT.
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 MICK YOUR DAMN RIGHT THE PEOPLE THAT WON THE 75P SHOULD SEND THE CHEQUE BACK AND TELL THEM TO STICK IT WERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE. I rather think that what you southerners call the North, we northeners call 'the midlands'..........!!!!
peterpau Posted July 15, 2006 Report Posted July 15, 2006 Mick tiz true winning NFC is highly prestigious however paying £6 for bordeaux feels like I am being fleeced. So at £8 how much more prestige is on line for a good bird from Dax with BICC.
Pompey Mick Posted July 16, 2006 Author Report Posted July 16, 2006 I have been a memberof the NFC for 42 yrs and I don't want to see such a once great club fade away. To maintain it's position in the sport the National Flying Club needs to show it's members that it intends to remain in the forefront when it comes to pigeon racing in the U.K. Since the upsurge in specialist clubs the NFC has seen its monopoly on prestige pigeon racing severely diminished and it can no longer rest on its laurels when it comes to attracting members and pigeons to compete in this great club. It has taken a massive step in acquiring this transporter deal and we can only hope that the quality of care and attention the birds are receiving will serve to attract members to compete. I would like to see the current NFC management pull out all the stops to make the NFC YB/ Old Hens race very attractive to the membership by way of sponsorship at all levels ,especially sectional, so that everybody is in with a chance so that we finish the season on a high We cannot wait until the AGM to resurrect this Club, it will be too late.
richard Posted July 16, 2006 Report Posted July 16, 2006 Still they do a nice handbook though don't they? :D :D Cheers Richard
swilcox Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 Mick Well said, bang on email to the commitee as u have summed alot of peoples feelins! Stuart
Pompey Mick Posted July 17, 2006 Author Report Posted July 17, 2006 Section B, Rose, when I send. I used to be in the old Sec A untill they changed it all a few years back. The section line passes through Langstone Harbour about a mile to the East of me.
Guest ben Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 Your still wrong mike, why should anyone want to sponser such a mediocre race as that, waste of time and money,by the way,i thought the ideal was for the hens to help the babies acoss the pond for the 1st time, that`s gone now,and this so called Transporter deal,i would dearly like to see the paperwork, because you can bet your bottom dollar it will cost the NFC members(if any are left :'( )way more than buying.
Pompey Mick Posted July 17, 2006 Author Report Posted July 17, 2006 Ben I wouldn't call the National Flying Club's Young Bird race mediocre. There are still an awful lot of fanciers who still regard the NFC historically the No 1 English national club. It is worth saving and restoring to it's former glories. I am sure it has within its ranks people capable of pulling this Club round. I sincerely hope so because I can remember the days when the whole seasons pigeon racing was geared to 'The National' and the BEST birds in the loft were earmarked to compete.
