Guest Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 hi ...was wondering wot feed do u give ur pigeons and wot additives, ive raced (old birds)on a very cheap mix for a few yrs, mainly buctons high protein economy.they get all the usual additives ie grit minerals and wot ever.and garlic (fresh cloves)in the water .ive topped the fed on this mixture and been top averages winner for the last 3 yrs....my m8 has just topped the fed twice on feeding just farm beans/maize/mixed peas.+ usual minerals. does the big name corns really give u an edge?
mark Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 no if there was only farm beans to feed your birds no other grains available we would all be feeding the same feed . to many fancy mixes if you ask me.
Guest Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 should have read been top averages winner in my club..soz.
andyb Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 totally agree. there are some very expensive mixes and if it were that simple we would all be winning. i remember visiting a mnfc winner and the only things in his hopper were large beans and barley. the same fanciers were also topping there fed with 4,000 pigeons on a regular basis. they gifted me pigeons as a return for a favour and i won instantly with them. the best season i had though was feeding pellets 100% whab i was asked to trial them
celtic Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 when you say pellets andy what do you mean, is there a certain brand to ask for etc ? Cheers
andyb Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 when i used them it was gold line but they sold the business so i really dont know where to go now. i did trial them quite extensively though and had pigeons fed 100%pellets winning on a far more regular basis than those on corn. pm me for more in depth
ribble Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 bamfords took over gold line. http://www.bamfords.co.uk/index.htm
Mike Lycett Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Protein / carbohydrates/ fats comes in many different forms. If you're a world class athlete you don't live on Steak & Chips or salad every day.
Chris Little Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Do you think the motors of Schumacher , Alonso and co are run on cheap unleaded fuel..... I want the best out of our birds and that means feeding them the best quality mixtures I can get my hands on, not some cheap junk from Farmer Giles down the road.
Guest Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 hi chris, i understand ur theory, but look at a performance of a club member and good friend of mine (j smale) on page 103 of bhw this week.2nd national bergerac! 510mls.a well known distance flyer in wales who has won 2 nationals winning 2 cars. .he feeds on farm corn.also R lambert who has already topped the welsh north rd fed twice this yr in youngbirds ..birdage of 6,774 and 4,591.(see dave stones advertisement in last weeks bhw page 61..heading under stop press.) ...also fed on farm corn. im not saying cheaper is best but good performances can be put up through cheap feeding.both these flyers i compete against.....paul.
stevebelbin Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Last year and the year B4 i was feeding V-Laga best all round for my channel birds, which is fairly cheap. Then this year for a change I followed V-Laga's feeding systems which involved feeding all-sorts of fancy expensive corns, and I had to have 4 bags of corn on the go, which itself was a pain in the backside. My birds flew much better when they were on the cheap Best-All-round corn and their droppings were always better, whereas the droppings on the Gerry+ etc were always much more loose. Now their finished ive resorted back to the Best-all-round and their droppings are perfect again.
Guest Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 im not saying these fanciers arnt feeding farm corn, but when some fanciers tell u they are id question them, are they just saying this so then u think oh i will feed them this corn now. then that makes winning even easier for them! food for thought (excuse the pun!) i agree with what mike and chris say though, athletes have a strict feeding regime just as birds need to, this is the case if you want to compete at the top level all the time, and i think that covers 99.99 & of us.
swilcox Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 I buy the best straight corns i can and mix my own!!!! Maize, Peas, Wheat and Conditioner. Add to this peanuts and cheese and it would compete with any of the £13.50 bags from the continent. Costs me £5.50 a bag that way but i must stress they high quality!!!! My Partner in Holland flys Marimens complete and that costs him £6.50 a bag I think we pay through the noise for most things. Stuart
Guest Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 swilcox your right , its the same as anything though, food, football tickets, petrol etc everything is more expensive in this country.
Mike Lycett Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Stu Did I hear you say "PEAS!!!" Better not let Mr Balson hear you say that ! ;D ;D ;D
swilcox Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Balson is finished at 300 Mike, mind he is a hard man to beat up until then!! Stu
Guest Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 hi again...gezza i know for a fact that the flyers are using farm corn as R lambert is my best m8 and im a close friend of J smale,i buy the corn wiv them at ((COURT FARM HEREFORD ..RICHARD ANDREWS,))...j smale buys beans there a ton or two at a time...wont buy anywhere else...WHERE DO THESE TOP CORN SPECIALISTS GET THEIR CORN FROM???...FARMS OF COURSE....i feed cheaply cos its wot i can afford as im registered disabled and unemployed.....ps court farm corn is cleaner then most brands ive tried in the past......i now use their hi protein economy since bucktons moved to 20kg bags...i pay£6.50 for 25kg bags(high protein) from this farm. i know a few top national flyers use this farm...farm number is 01432 880224..ask for richard.
