superstar Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 Do any of you use Stalisan F as a floor dressing?
Guest Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 Used it as part of deep litter for about 2 years.

superstar Posted November 22, 2006 Author Report Posted November 22, 2006 :-/ is that the white floor powder, that covers the floors. :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ or am i dumb :X :X :X Speck :-/ Its pink in colour and very good too! I would recommend it to anyone, I just wondered how widely it was used in the pigeon game and seems I'm in the minority. Its ideal if your busy and cant spend time cleaning out for a week or two, just give it all a good dusting a couple of times a week and all will be well with the birds. No health problems and keeps it all drier and easier to clean out.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 I DID USE IT ONCE AND IT DID LEAVE A NICE CLEAN SMELL IN THE LOFT BUT FOR ME TO BUY A BAG NOW IS £30 AND THATS BEING DELIVERED, THERE IS NOBODY LOCAL THAT SUPPLIES IT, HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY FOR A BAG SUPERSTAR IF YOU PICK IT UP YOURSELF
blackjack Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 try using burnt lime it does the the same job for a hell of a lot less.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 I USE COLOMBINE LOFT FLOOR WHITE , WAS TOLD NEVER TO USE LIME , IN FACT I THINK PAULO HAD SOMETHING ON SOMEWHERE ABOUT NOT USING LIME
Guest Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 Stalosan: 5kg around £13. Get mine at Larbert Mills. Discovered aspergillus in nest boxes ... floors had a dusting of it, so trying Harker's Loft Guard - 1st time last weekend so too early for opinion. One BIG difference tho is smell ... Harkers has eucalyptus in it, insect repellant, and the loft now smells of this ... eucalyptus is also a 'breath-easy' product [olbas oil contains it] so don't expect me or birds to have any respiratory problems, or have flies / moths in loft. Lime: Some safety issues for humans when using hydrated lime; causes burns when wet [look for Hydrated lime health & safety data sheets on the web] so reckon not suitable for pigeons either.
BLONDIE Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 this was originally used by gamekeepers and poultry keepers long before it was introduced to pigeon keepers, it has a distinct smell when used in the lofts, as does the harkers loft treatment and both leave the lofts feeling clean and disinfected
blackjack Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 hello all white lime is no good i said burnt lime ie grey or garden lime that is safe and works.
Roland Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 Garden Lime is GOOD.... Never ever heard of any one that blamed it, or putting a finger at it in reality regards the E. Coli cobblers. Nothing and everything can and shouldn't be usd if a part of it's properties were on their own...
Guest Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 hello all white lime is no good i said burnt lime ie grey or garden lime that is safe and works. Agree, and because of the possible confusion between different limes, need to be careful that people know what you are talking about. Some limes are deadly. Got the low-down first from a clubmate who was an ex-head chemistry teacher; then from Ian who works in Larbert Mills [ supplies farms, pigeon folks, horsy folks etc.]. Stuff I use is calcium carbonate, CaCo3, agricultural or garden lime, comes as a flour [powder] or granules [lumpy powder]. Can anybody post up what Colombine Floor White actually is / contains?
superstar Posted November 22, 2006 Author Report Posted November 22, 2006 I DID USE IT ONCE AND IT DID LEAVE A NICE CLEAN SMELL IN THE LOFT BUT FOR ME TO BUY A BAG NOW IS £30 AND THATS BEING DELIVERED, THERE IS NOBODY LOCAL THAT SUPPLIES IT, HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY FOR A BAG SUPERSTAR IF YOU PICK IT UP YOURSELF I pay £26 a bag (25kg) and it lasts a long time. I have to say its money well spent too, I have 58 birds in a small shed and aviary while a new loft is being built and even though they are over crowded there have been no problems what so ever health wise. A friend of mine used lime in his loft and when in there it did have a tightening effect on my chest so how the poor birds stuck it I will never know but doubt it did them much good
Pompey Mick Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 I use Stalosan F, I use it on the perches once a week, very good but also a bit expensive. It leaves the loft nice & fresh and is a very reliable disinfectant, but difficult to get hold of locally.
Guest beautyhomer Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 Staloson F is available mail order next day delivery from Regency Poultry 01246 854647 or 07980 411174
