Guest TAMMY_1 Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 IF YOUR BIRDS START FIELDING WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY ARE MISSING AT HOME
friendsloft Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Minerals, that is what i was told once,it could be black minerals, salt, what ever, once i started putting black minerals fresh in the loft, the birds stopped fielding. it must be something they are short of at this time of year when birds are paired and rearing young, because the rest of the year they never bothered friendsloft
mac1 Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 i had this problem last year with old birds, was told a few things.would like some advice aswell.

birdman55678 Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 IF YOUR BIRDS START FIELDING WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY ARE MISSING AT HOME If they go to the field they are missing some sort of vitimin or minerals, try a pigeon supply house and buy several types of minerals for them. I have used damascus dirt which works very well for me. Ed

Guest TAMMY_1 Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 DONT THINK THEY'LL BE MISSING YOU ANYWAY :P ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D WELL WHY DO THEY KEEP COMING HOME TO ME AND KEEP ON WINNING CUPS FOR ME, THEY MUST LIKE SOMETHING HERE AT HOME :P
Roland Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Mole hills are free and contain everything they need, or are looking for. Use to place some on a board and then take back and replace with fresh ones every so often. Can't be arsed now, likewise use to fetch in 'Spring Water' which is also ripe with goodies. Now fielding is fine via me, I know the spray etc. but rain has washed most into the ground in no time... But they just don't go. Use to get the 'Cows Mineral' that they seemed to relish and travel afar for, likewise a little salt block. Qualtz is in every crop cut open... go figure that out. But is certainly found and got regular....
Roland Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 And of course 'Well Water' is also superb, if you know well to get it.
Guest beautyhomer Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Surely giving pigeons fresh soil is not very scientific.Different soils will contain different minerals and in different quantities.Light sandy soils are prone to leaching of minerals more so than heavy clay soils. This is why there are different fertilizers available. The same arguement can be used for cow minerals, diff minerals are available to buy depending on what the animals are not getting from their forage-back to diff soils again. The mineral content of spring and mineral water will depend on the type of rocks the water has passed through. If pigeons are allowed to go fielding are any of you not concerned about them being shot?Pigeons training or racing are easy to identify, not so when they are landing on a freshly sown field where they will be mistaken for streeters.
maverick Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 I HAVE A OLD RED HEN THAT WHEN I PAIR UP AND SHE HAS YOUNG IN THE NEST GOES DOWN TO THE BEACH . YOU KNOW AS SHE WILL BE LATE HOME AND LOOK UNDER HER RING YOU WILL FIND SAND. ALL THE GRIT AND MINERALS DO NOT STOP HER DOING IT.
pigeonscout Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Maybe they just want some greens try some rabbit pellets.
Guest Paulo Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 I use those clay pickstone things. I find the worse thing for fielding is when the farmer has cut the corn and there is corn lying in the fields seems to draw the birds from miles around!!!
