pigeonpete Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 you MUST vaccinate new stock birds, or suffer the concequences, but once done providing they are in a seperate loft wont need doing again

rockinrick Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 the only time i vaccinate stock birds is when i buy in from out of town sellers .
Keepsmilingqueen Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 a query to add onto this post, inherited all my stock last feb and as far as i know the stock birds are not/have never been vaccinated, the stock loft is on the other side of the garden to the race loft but they do have unrestricted acsess to a large wire flight area, no new birds have been added other than the odd one that was bred in the stock loft and kept for stock from day 1 . Do you think i should vaccinate my stocks ??

Personally i would say yes as i do all my birds stock as well every year,i allways think how i would ever forgive myself if my stock birds did catch something.

HOMER49 Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 all my birds are vaccinated ive seen paramyxo i culled nearly 100 for a friend thats why i do it. Hi Use to vaccinate my young just before training started and did not vaccinate late breds kept for stock A young brid was lost off roof before vaccination and returned later Looked A1 after 4/5 days put back in YB loft Off 44 YBs 37 died or were disposed of Vet said it was PARAMYXO In my stock loft I lost 5 old birds varing ages but only birds that not vaccinated Stock loft is 10 meters from YB loft Vet said it was on my clothes and feet I NEVER EVER WANT TO SEE THAT AGAIN So now I jag every YB as it leaves the nest and every bird that enters my loft Cheers Homer 49
PIGEON_MAN Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Amazes me that someone might spend a couple of hundred pounds on a stock bird and then wont spend another 20p or so to protect it.
robinthfc Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 I will vaccinate all my birds this year. Haven't vaccinated for a few years because of being North road, like most of my club. But we had a bad outbreak of paramyxo and it is not good. Lost nearly all my yb's or had to kill them, even ones I bought, I was extremely p***ed of with myself because I feel I let them down by not vaccinating. I would now advise anyone to vaccinate all their birds now. Its a case of always thinking it happens to other people, its a nightmare of a disease
Guest CS Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 I think it's best way to caccinate all stock birds, and racers... better safety than sorry.
westy Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 i only do ybs because they have to have it otherwise i will not vaccinate stock or any oldbirds.
Dougie Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 If you ever see the horrific state the birds get into, you will make sure you vaccinate. Its not a very nice thing to see.
