THE FIFER Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Hi Guys Filling out a funding application is Pigeon racing a sport ...I call it a "sport" but is it a recognised sport per se or a hobby :-/ :-/ :-/ it is not recognised as a sport but on the application i put in i had it as a sport and all my application has been accepted, just waiting on results now.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 it is not recognised as a sport but on the application i put in i had it as a sport and all my application has been accepted, just waiting on results now. where did you get your info from archie ? ;)
Roland Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Unfortunately Maff / DAFRA still regard pigeons as Poultry , and comes under that. Yes it is time to have it changed... golly it's a couple of hundred years when they were raised as feed by the Gentry.... and they were plumb fat things.... Again this is of no importance to DAFRA, or most of the voting public.... Should be to us, but we as usual sit on our hands getting a thrill twiddling the thumbs apparentley ... Another reason for a P.R. firm I'd wager!
ALF Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 MY CLUB GOT A GRANT OF APPROX £9500 TO PURCHASE ETS SYSTEMS AND A NEW PC ASWELL 8) 8)
THE FIFER Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 where did you get your info from archie ? ;) most from u tammy and much appreciated, i got it back just to put dates in one page and all the rest had their stamp on so all accepted just now waiting for the results, yes ur info tammy was a big help. would have been scratching my head at a lot of them,
westy Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 racing is a sport so racing pigeons are a sport i would say, i find it better racing birds than flying them.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 most from u tammy and much appreciated, i got it back just to put dates in one page and all the rest had their stamp on so all accepted just now waiting for the results, yes ur info tammy was a big help. would have been scratching my head at a lot of them, just hope you get it archie, hope all the others get it as well, it certainly can make a difference in any club, you can apply for one every year as long as it is something different than your previos application, another month and i will be trying again for our club
Pompey Mick Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 IF greyhound racing is recognised as a Sport then there is no reason why pigeon racing shouldn't be.
Roland Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 No, so true that Mick, just means that certain party's etc. have to put it forward again, and again etc. Be nice if a P.R. firm put it together and presented it I guess.
schyphos Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Agree with Pompey Mick,if Horse racing and greyhound racing are classed as sport then so should Pigeon racing.
THE FIFER Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 THEY SAY ITS BECAUSE HUMANS DONT TAKE PART IN IT SO DO AGREE ABOUT THE GREYHOUNDS,
Roland Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 Greyhound racing is the second most watch event - after Football - in Great Britain. But Like I say, it won't never change and will always be lumped with 'Poultry' ... unless of course after the next 'Blue moon' ( due within 23 years I reckon) a sensible case is put forward and somebody somewhere will take it aboard and sorted ... Bet if it meant just dictating to a P.R. firm it would be on the Agenda'! What agenda! The one that says Hawks need curtailing, and the experiment has been proved to be over zealous. That the RSCB is conning the back garden lovers of birds by accepting money to enhance their very own Distinction, via not only showing their Good looking falcons and hawks, but keep spout lies about their numbers etc. That whilst it is only right that every European state has the right to defend her country as they feel best suitable ... Facts that are washed under the carpet, for political and vote catching reasons, have a sensible and professional aspect placed before them. The agenda that say 'Pigeons' are mislabelled as flying rats and Ken Livingston should or could have been held account. That the MEDIA is presented with a proper, realistic FACT knowing program! The agenda that say a Think Tank and knowledgeable concern ' IS a mouthpiece for the fancy. That a sensible regime be put into place for Joe Public awareness of our sport. For a few pence EACH per year... We don't even get public acknowledgement for the Charities we help ever year, let alone a % that should - I believe - could go each year towards paying for a P.R. firm...Indeed actually paying for one! Then the rest to Charities... So much more too ... But the RPRA are terrified of the members’; Backlash’ if they even suggest it ... let alone go ahead a put it through. Yes I know, we spend weeks trying to get it through that unless membership is raise, or another 5p per bird is added - and I do many Fund - Raiser' every year for my clubs, then the club won't survive. What happens! You guess it... they spend the next 11 months asking why that extra £5 per year can't go to the 'Winnings' etc. and even believe it or not the ludicrous crap 'Weeer what I wanna know is why that extra £5 can't pay of the extra we have had to pay ... and what's left should go as 'Prize winnings' Sound familiar!
THE FIFER Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 greyhound racing lumped with poultry????????????? :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ not sending u for my christmas dinner rolland lol ;D ;D ;D ;D
Wiley Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 greyhound racing lumped with poultry????????????? :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ not sending u for my christmas dinner rolland lol ;D ;D ;D ;D hy not its called eating chinese lmao ;D
Roland Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 For the ones that struggle lol 'But Like I say, it won't never change and 'PIGEONS' will always be lumped with 'Poultry'. Hence pigeon racing will be a Poultry race ... which out side og the 'Headless Chicken races, which were more of an endurance test lol there are none ... hence no sport, hence Pigeons are Poultry, simple as that really lol
mealybar Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 http://www.pigeonbasics.com/news/news330.html
Guest Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 Good post Richard. Not a sport cos nobody has bothered to ask that it be considered a sport! ;D On same tack: remember a letter in BHW a good while back now that an application had been turned down because the awarding body said pigeon racing wasn't considered a sport, but there has been no further cases of this reported, as far as I know. racing, competition, betting, training ... all 'sporty' words to me. it's a sport.
pigeonscout Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 Under EU law racing pigeons are classified as household pets
