Guest paulrstokes Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 Hi All Does anyone have any good methods of deterring the sparrowhawk. Had an attack right outside my loft this morning, as I approached I could see a pile of feathers, then as I got closer I could see a female sitting ontop a large mealy she had just killed. I got to within 10 feet, and the hawk just stared. She tried to take off with the bird but it was too heavy. She eventually flew off, I picked up the carcase, and put it in the bin, as I turned the hawk was back in the pile of feathers staring at me as if to say where is my lunch. I promptly lauinched something and the hawk moved about 2 feet away (cheecky Sod) Eventually she cleared off. I have heard all the romours about hanging CD 's around the loft and ust thought I would ask if anyone has any suggestions as to whether these things actually work or not. ManyThanks
gangster Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 a guy down the road just had the same outside his loft lucky he was there so it flew off leaving the hen..hes got cds never stopped the attack
Roland Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 I believe the CD is a detterent, I haven't had an attack since I have used it. Further I have 2 pairs nesting close by. Tammy can sort you with a CD.
Guest Vic Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 Is it not too early for them to be nesting? Or has the mild weather kidded 'em?

Ian McKay Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 Hi Paul The cds they are talking about is one of the eagle owls call. Different to hanging cds on a line. Try sending TAMMY a PM I think he could help you but ask nicely.

Dave A Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 i haave seen a few hawks here but have not had a strike yet (touch wood) i think this is down to the fact i am surrounded by trees and they are full of crows, wood pigeons and doves so are getting the 24.7 takeaway from them
frank-123 Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 i had crows above my last loft location they sure let you know if there is a hawk around
