mac1 Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 had an accident today the school feild near my loft, has a wind turbine to power the school with eletricity that spins at such a speed,i was sitting watching my birds flying then the turbine started going and it killed five of my pigeons im devastated, the thing should not run on weekends and in the morning local fanciers have complained to the school a number of times and the times it was to run was agreed im on the phone first thing monday morning to say what they have to say..
THE FIFER Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 not very good mate, if those turbines were out in the wild and killing wild birds something would be done about it. RSPB would'nt allow it.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 contact the shu lawyer and see if you have no grounds for compensation,

Guest Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Sorry to hear about your loss. There may be more of these mini turbines coming as there's some new law that households, schools etc have to supply 20% of their own energy needs by 20somethin. Pop down to B&Q for one kinda thing. Wonder what happened to the good old solar panels? Would have thought they were more suitable in a built up area. Fit in better than the rest of the ugly stuff like TV Arials & Dishes and now mini-turbines. Maybe a planning issue one for your community council / local councillor?
gangster Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 SORRY TO HEAR THAT MAC1 AS IVE BEEN UP IT IS VERY CLOSE TO THE LOFTS, AND IF I REMEMBER THE GUY UP BEHIND YOU LOST MOST OF HIS ROLLERS TO THE TURBINE......GET IN AND KICK UP MONDAY.....................
mac1 Posted March 18, 2007 Author Report Posted March 18, 2007 everyone in our allotments call it the mincer
Guest Vic Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 New one to me! How do they get involved with wind turbine? Can't they see the blades? If so, surely this is the end for DEFINITE, unless they can put grilles around > > > > > > > > 'em. Vic.
stevebelbin Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 There was something on about them on GrandDesigns I think, you can only fit them with Planning approval from the local council and houses in built up areas with little wind cant use them (for obvious reasons) and solar panels are their alternative. I think a lot of houses will have them pretty soon and they will be a new problem for the pigeons to contend with, especially in head winds, when they skim the roof tops. Mine quite often hit the odd TV arial near my house, so they would be decimated if people started putting wind turbines up!!
T_T Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Heard some 3/4mths ago that they will be siting something like 60 wind turbines in the channel off the North East Coast here in Kent. Could have a devastating effect on the birds crossing the channel.
Guest shadow Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 they are also planning a large number of wind farms of the coast and inland in lincolnshire so birds coming up the east coast in strong west winds will have to watch out >
Guest Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Think the birds would need to be blind not to see the size of turbine on a wind farm, both on- or off-shore. But the smaller ones that the thread is about could maybe take them unawares (obviously did if it caused 5 deaths) and like the other post suggesting the same thing, I think a metal grid protector should be fitted as standard. Needs to be put to the local planning authority, together with the evidence.
mac1 Posted March 20, 2007 Author Report Posted March 20, 2007 the ones you guys are on about are the really big ones that go roung slow, the one near my loft goes like a helicopter really fast
