A sensible thing to do is to stop them if you want to build up your team, its ok to keep sending them if you have a shed full of older pigeons to fall back on if you loose them. If you like the racing and not worried about next year i would fly em out but if you did stop them there is plenty to do with the yb's

Bart,

Check the rest of the race result - I bet there were still plenty of yearlings clocked in. Dont molly-coddle them, you might still lose them as 2 yr olds.

-Look after the ones that you have got back - pick the right weather for them.

You dont say if you have them on natural or widowhood???? If they are on widowhood, either dont show them the hen before basketing or give them the hen for about 3hours before basketing. Or split the team and try half one way and half the other. The crux of the matter is dont wind them up too much before basketing if you want to keep them, especially in a tailwind as they will go over and keep going.

sent 15 yearlings only got eight home from leicester 252 miles

should i stop and keep them to next season  or should i race them out

i have no older birds as i have just restarted but i have 14 latebreds for the comeback races that have been training

keep my yearlings or carry on????????????

personally iwould stop them , 8, 2 year olds ,that have flown 252 miles can do a lot of damage as 2 y,olds, you dont say whether you race w, hood or natural, i would be more inclined to look at why you dropped them , maybe paired too early on natural theyd be on their 4th flight , this is when the body feathers begin to loosen ready for a body moult, or if w, hood ,were they trained to much to early, march ?could be many reasons ,but i would seek that one out, but as i say , as youve no older birds ,would tend to keep the 8 for two year olds  , good luck ,whichever way you decide :)

hey bart if you want them to fly in nationals you got to teach em to break from other birds and the only way to do it is send em, i sent 4 yearlings  to longest race last year(422mls)welsh south east nat,and got all of them 1 was first bird to the loft from 19 sent(vel 1219),3 on the day 1 early next morning(he'd been jumped from 120mls)i fly in the far west section, what do you want in the shed birds or birds that can fly the longer races, do you train your birds from the opposite direction they race in case they go over as this can help
