I may be just unlucky, the 5 birds I got appeared OK health wise but honestly, 4 of them the first time they were out [singly] as soon as they went over the garden fence they were lost and I never saw them again.

1st loss was my fault, just started up with a matched pair - the YB cock got out after only 3 days here, but the other 3 were minimum 21 days here, and 2 of them were paired up.  The only bird I was able to settle was a yearling hen of that matched pair [bought for stock] - got another cock for her, only to discover after another year went by that she was barren, egg-drop syndrom I reckon, was used as a feeder for a couple of years then put down because her condition steadily worsened and eventually caused breathing distress.

As I said, I may be just unlucky, £250 and nuffink , not a single feather, to show for it.  :-/

These things happen in war same with me spent 160 quid on beaverdam young uns and they all died of some mystery disease apart from one. Cracking one the one that was left mind you he's bred some beauts of yb's see if they score this year. ;D

I only buy pigions now off people I know and of who I have been recommended and seen the yb's they turn out.

the more you pay for birds of them the better a friend of myne from london went to lpw asked him to get out the best piet valk janssens and lpw did he didnt like them they were about £50-100 and he said that lpw took him round the back and showed him some more which he liked they were £500 each

my own thoughts are ,,,buying a kit of healthy ybs for around £100 cant be bad at all ,,,it would nearly cost you that to rear them, you can pay fortunes for pigeons that never breed anything, as said b4 you pays your money, and take your chance ,,,,,,,,,,but,,most fanciers tend to blame the pigeons and never themselves ?

So Chris that is a rather ludicriss statement.

I see your results from time to time, and can assure you that there are umpteen, 100's infact far far better than you have acheived. Have bred Nation and internation winners, an every other organisation you care to mention. So yes with so many they has to be a bit of rubbish bred from time to time, and of course the Stock sense may not always be right.... but theiur offspring are more than likely to click!

To put it simply, the money spent, the fantastic birds bought means that there are umpteen bargains to be had every week!

And whats more Loella make them available to the Plebes, so spend as you like, but I think it's in poor taste to decry a stud that has acheived so much for so many, and lets face far far more than what you have acheived.

Sorry but cant stand by and see a Decent concern slagged of, especially by one not so good....

i bought a direct son off the old janssen cock "stamvater" amd "sheer elegance" it cost me £800 in 1988 and he was a real stunner, just looked like his farther, anyway he went on to breed 21x1sts and g,sire to many more including a combine winner in 2000,plus many fed prize winners in the first 5.ive had a few janssens from louella over the years and all have bred winners.Les

Roland - Seems I have touched a nerve here  ;D and I couldn't give a monkeys, I only speak from my own observations and no one elses, if I were to breed several thousand youngsters a year I too would be expecting to hear from someone to say they've won a national from one of them. Our recent seasons have given us a huge amount of enjoyment with a decent national CV to match, as you say, there are 100's out there that are better...... so what....... we enjoy our sport

Mark - Pleased to hear the ybs are co ing along nicely ;)

Think logically.........

The average fancier breeds 30 yb and is lucky if he gets 2 good ones  ;)

Multiply that by mass production :-/ :-/ :-/ (lets say x 100)

Maths = 3000yb (200 good ones), equates to 2800 x crap  :o :o :o

Agree with you. Figure I'd seen is 1 good pigeon in 10. So if you breed 100 youngsters you'll [maybe] get 10 good ones. Saw a TV program on gold mining the other night. Same sorta idea: mine 1000 tonnes rock to get 1 ounce of gold.

good pigeons will breed good pigeons more often than bad ones.

rubbish pigeons will breed ribbish pigeon more often than good ones.

so you decide whats the best to keep. and people who mass breed are looking for 1 or 2 good ones , my advice is change your stock and buy some quality.

well it cost me £70 for the wan aff u, and then £140 for the next two, so I better get a winner out them or I want my giro money back Harky or there will also be blood there

i am thinking logicly i have paid money for ybs, I dont expect 50 winners all i want is 50 healthy ones. You wouldnt go to tescos and buy a loaf of bread and be happy if it was mouldy!

No you haven't touch a raw nerve at all Chris, after all you have to look in the mirror and wipe the brown stuff from around your mouth.

And also if you only buy the best and breed from the best, and are more selective, then yours must be real rubbish for starters in as much you cannae do a lot better!

And Mark hope your birds do well for you, but looks aren't anything at all... You can get that 'Bonzo Brill' from out of a bottle' lol

But yes Chris has good birds, yes he has and is doing well, just a shame he can't wake up and smell the coffee like.
