When do fanciers take there youngbirds off darkness?

I was told by a fancier who as been very successfull over the years with darkness youngbirds to take them off exactly 1 month before the first race.

Mine are coming off today 6 weeks before the first young bird race.The have gone through the full body molt and look good.I will give them 3 days locked in the shed then the rest of the week on open hole basket training through the evening and next week basket training from the garden then that leaves me 4 weeks to start on the road work starting at 5 mile working to 40.

about 4 weeks before the racing starts as the birds seem to reach form about after 6 weeks of begin off the dark. I normally take mine of around the 21st of june

Ours will be coming off Bourges week! Bourges is on 22nd June.

I always take mine off 1st June, so last night was their final night on darkness.

june 21st is normally the day you take them off the darkness,work oit your first young bird race and give yourself 3 weeks to train them .

I move my young birds before the 14th Feburary and they moult just like darkies so thankfully i dont have to worry about when curtains go up and down

Take them of the dark 5 weeks before you want them to come into form

ive heard of people puting em back on darkness at 8pm till 10pm i know its only 2hours but aparently they hold there feather right till end of season as the nights start to get shorter the birds then start to moult again!!

I am neanderthal man when it comes to darkness, have never done it!!! Last year won first two races YB  but then got whooped every week by darkness, was always first of the non darkness brigade....but that ain't much good............just hate darkened lofts I suppose!!! Will have to get there sooner or later if I want to compete week in week out with YB. Having said that I've bred the finest YB I've ever had this year, so I'll wait and see whether quality is the key regardless!!

I dont like darkening the loft either Albear i did this year to compete but i am gonna see if i can find out about the Light system as thats meant to be just as good.So anyone who knows the light system .I would be made up if you could send me the details please

anyone tried breeding decemeber 10th, watched a video called system X with spence and nichols and was saying bred that time of year the hold all there flights?

Well many are into the 'Beiche System' now with a good feed back.... Don't know how Ronnie and Albear would cope with it though lol.

Roland all this new technology. , I' gave up on trying to see the light 4 decades ago!!
