Ronnie Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 Sorry to everyone who lost birds hopefully they will make there way back. But surely the main responsibility lies with the fancier if they know the weather is going to be bad why send the birds Surely you cant send hoping for a holdover of three or four day's .
celtic Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 Ian my name is Darryn McGreevy, save yourself the effort re proposing me for that position. Firstly i would not consider my self knowledgeable enough, where as it seems some think that they are and alas in this case they have been proved to be way below what is required for the job. It only takes one bad race to ruin fanciers few years work, the race in question being a national where everybody wants a bit of glory was always going to attract a good entry...it was also going to guarantee large losses given the fact that those supposedly in the "know" about the weather etc chose to liberate when they did. there was quite simply no need for it. Congratulations to all those that got birds home in good time.
celtic Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 With all due respect Rose, nobody is asking them to put themselves forward, i certainly would'nt just because nobody else was prepared too. why try to do a job that again with all due respect they do not have the knowledge to do properly. with fanciers paying hundreds, sometimes thousands for birds, then the cost of ets and everything else involved in racing these days surely funds must be available from somewhere to resolve this issue. yours Celtic

Can't help connecting what you say about time, money etc average fancier spends on his birds with other threads on this forum which claim huge losses are part and parcel of pigeon racing. For me anyway, its not. But maybe time to spend less on buying pigeons 'to throw away' every week and spend more on systems that ensure the pigeon has more than a fair chance of doing what we ask of it.
celtic Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 whilst i agree that a lot of pigeons are being bred then raced unneccessarly, (spelling), getting back to the maidstone race, many good pigeons are absent from their perches i would imagine, not just from fanciers who for want of a better expression "mob fly" but from guys that have been at it for years and breed and send good birds to these races. I believe that again it ultimately goes back to the controllers/conveyors decision as to whether to liberate or not, in this case, and again it's was'nt just a run of the mill race it was a national after all, good pigeons will have been lost through homework not being done.

Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 7 from 13 1 on the day and 6 today also 2 ne birds from same club from different races.
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 My oppinion is if there are possible problems with the weather on race day then the controller should phone all the secreterys and they should call all the members and ask the members what they think. majority of votes win i.e liberate/holdover then we can all blame ourselves and not just on 1 man if its a tie then race controller decides yes or no. Simple

Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 they are deciding at early stages in the morning so you give the secs half an hour to get round everyone if they dont get back to controller within half hour they dont hav a say

Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 21 Birds timed in the NORTH Sec in race time from 94 should have benn a lot more
maverick Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 they are deciding at early stages in the morning so you give the secs half an hour to get round everyone if they dont get back to controller within half hour they dont hav a say SO NOW NOT EVERYONE HAS A SAY, ONLY IF YOUR SEC CAN GET HOLD OF YOU AND ONLY IF THE RACE CONTROLLER CAN GET HOLD OF THE SECS IF ONLY
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 Aye thats right you should be in anyway if you are racing waiting on the phone call to say the bird are up or is that why you all have ets so you can go shopping with the wife and let the birds time them selves in.
