GUTTY HEN Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 It looks like we will all need to have our last race in the snfc from inland race point. We have a meeting on wednesday for the committie to see what we should do.I would like you snfc members to tell me where you would like the last race to be from ie maidstone haistings poole or any other race points you would like me to bring up at the meeting for you to be considered
midnight_son Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 As far as possible in my opinion. Are we allowed to Guernsey ? If not then we should go to the south coast not stopping short at Newbury or Maidstone. Not particularly bothered which of the souuth coast racepoints it is but maybe have a slight preference for something more central than east. Portland was ok in the year of foot and mouth i recall. Why was a replacement inland race not staged for the abandonment of Tours ? All those birds were trained and in nest condition for a race, could they not have had a nice little race from the coast tomorrow ? They won't be able to go in a fortnight because their nest condition will have gone. Very disappointing to not get any kind of race for them.
Bluedoo Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 another maidstones fine I doo hope thats weather permitting this time, and fine ALL the way (dizzy)
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 As far south as possible as these birds have been set up for 500+miles not that it makes much difference to me as I am only sending 2
GUTTY HEN Posted July 6, 2007 Author Report Posted July 6, 2007 The reason for no replacement race was due to only getting told that we could not get into france two hours before due to basket the pigeons. If we went to say maidstone for a race and the bulk of the members were not informed we would be giveing ourself prolbems which we do not need at this point iin time.We would also have people who new that we were only going to maidstone and not tours turn up with birds to go to this race and others around them not informed of any race it has to be the same for all the members and not just the members who happen to find out at short notice. We then would have a problem with transport not able to take all the birds ets.I think the right thing was to cancell the race as was the case i can see the members who were going to tours not happy at not getting the race that was planned but it could be a lot worse than just not getting a race. I can tell you that it looks like our last old bird race of the season with be inland and we will just have to get on with it the same as all the others in the country.Everyone who looks forward to the water races is fed up at the moment and will all look at what if this and what if that but the truth is this was done with the best intentions for all the birds and the snfc members.I hope you will continue to support the snfc and i look forward to speaking to you at the national marking.
sj irving jnr Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 best of luck in trying to get somthing sorted for the last race, but my birds were set for tours,so thats me for the old bird season.
Chris Little Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 Was hearing snippets of Belgium being mentioned :o
Guest Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 Was hearing snippets of Belgium being mentioned :o Current position is DEFRA revoked our Continental Race Licence on 5th July which means racing from the Channel Islands and Europe are out until further notice. We are currently only allowed to race from mainland Britain, Isle of Man, and mainland Ireland.

I can tell you that it looks like our last old bird race of the season with be inland and we will just have to get on with it the same as all the others in the country.Everyone who looks forward to the water races is fed up at the moment and will all look at what if this and what if that but the truth is this was done with the best intentions for all the birds and the snfc members.I hope you will continue to support the snfc and i look forward to speaking to you at the national marking. good post,,on the snfc tours race allthough very dissapointing,, nobodies fault just an unfortunate situation, lets just hope the snfc have a good last nat, wherever from,,,,my thoughts would be portsmouth ,?
Alf_Rothwell Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 I think Eastbourne would be a good race for you I think it would be around 400 miles to Edinburgh as it is 305 to Whitley Bay. Just a thought!! Alf R
Guest Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 A Scottish race from Lerwick.. would that be a first? Sorry to hear about the continental problems. Did suggest that at the year 1 joint meeting when it looked like an all-inland program. Think its a water race with a difference, reversing as it does the shortest and longest flyers ... and there's Faroes too.
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 what about from the port at DOVER not get much closer to France than that without going into the water
Guest Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 why not got to the fareo island and get a race we will get plenty of distance then will we not ;D ;D ;D
harky Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 skibbereen in the south of ireland would that not be suitable
Ian McKay Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 why not got to the fareo island and get a race we will get plenty of distance then will we not ;D ;D ;D Faroe is not part of the UK so this is a none starter The UK Defra have the ban in place we are Not allowed out of the UK
Ian McKay Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 skibbereen in the south of ireland would that not be suitable Once again Skibbereen is NOT in the UK
Pompey Mick Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 The permit is for the Btitish Isles which includes the Republic of Ireland: ‘British Isles’ for the purposes of this licence means England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and the Isle of Man but it excludes the Channel Islands. How about a race from Portsmouth, I could go and watch the lib and post plenty of pictures. It's an excellent lib site.
Chris Little Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 I think Skibbereen was proposed as a possible racepoint at the AGM but was knocked back. How about a boat race, I am sure our Irish cousins done this a few years ago, not sure if it was a success or not.......... :
THE FIFER Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 yes i think portsmouth would be as near as u could get,
Guest Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 How about a boat race, I am sure our Irish cousins done this a few years ago, not sure if it was a success or not.......... : Suggested same at the same meeting I proposed Lerwick, Chris, 'dead in the water' but Dr Phil Lynch did tell me later that the Irish had done this successfully. Was also a video on here [from Taiwan I think] showing a sea liberation, so it is possible.
