DJ Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 hi, for the first time ever ive now discovered that i have mice in my attic as they have chewed some papers and boxes into small pieces which im assuming is to build their nests with? ive never had this problem before getting my pigeons and i would appreciate any advice as to the best way to get rid of the mice before it gets out of hand as i have my neighbours to worry about as im worried they may blame my pigeons? my pigeons are scraped out every day but the loft floor is deep litter consisting of sand/lime and straw i havent as yet put any mice poisons down as both my neighbours have cats, can anybody help/advise me before i have mice running everywhere? debbie :-/
Guest Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 PUT DOWN PLENTY OF POISON AND KEEP IT DOWN HIDE IT OUT THE ROAD FROM DOGS KEEP FILLING IT UP EVERY SECOND DAY ,GOD LUCK ;D ;D
Guest Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 serve them with an eviction notice.hehe ,.......but seriously u need to install traps now and poison, even if u dont like too, remember mice breed every 28 days, and their young can breed within no time at all, mice like rats, usually keep to outside walls(boundaries) so make sure that traps/poison is put there,...hope u get rid of them,i promise not to squeal on you,if you kill them ;D ;D ;D.....paul
jimmy white Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 hi debbie, you can put mouse poison in the attic, but in the loft, i bought a little plastic gadget ,,from homebase [think its rentokill make] mice go in one end out the other , but pass through poison ,, birds cant get at it at all

expat1 Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Hello Debbie I think you can buy a product which you put on a piece of board, what it does is as soon as a mouse walks on it he is stuck and thats it, It is a special glue It works very well Steve
celtic Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 That's the one i was talking about steve, works a treat.
Guest Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 as much as i dont like mice and that there is one thing a dont like and that is being cruel as when it comes to it we are cruel enough to the little blitters but that glue stuf you are on about should be banned as they stick to it and letterly starve to death ,better just using poison or a trap were you dont see what happens to them maybe cruel but faster
nipper Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 Buy stuff called "Tracking powder" , I put it in an old biscuit tin or shoe box , cut a small round hole in either end and spread the powder inside the box or tin . Put it in an area where the mice will run through it and every now and then have a look for footprints. Its a poison they lick off there feet ect ,so when the footprints stop ,you know they are under control again !. I use an old feather to spread out the powder every time I look . That will sort out the attic , but the loft is a different matter . Same again with the tin , but put a couple of the new plastic traps inside and channel them in with a strip of cardboard so they have to cross the trap . The next time you have a bacon roll scrape some fat from the frying pan and put it on the trap plate ! they cant resist it !!.

DJ Posted July 14, 2007 Author Report Posted July 14, 2007 hi all thanx 4 all your replies/advice im gonna try the rentokill gadget first as jimmy white advised but will also look into the tracking powder recomended by nipper as for the glue strips i cant think of a worse way of controlling mice as they are then left to starve or be attacked by other animals i know poisoning isnt nice but at least its a faster death and the mice are not left at the mercy of other animals (which can also be caught in the glue) sorry to bang on and i know pest control is necessary but i hate see animals suffer anyway thanx again for your help its much appreciated debbie
DOVEScot Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 ia polecat ;D ;D Plenty for sale just now Scot-ads is full of them, get a male, they have scent glands that keep quite a few blighters away
