Guest Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Taken from the Defra site Bird fairs, markets, shows and other gatherings As from Monday 12th November 2007 all bird gatherings, including falconry displays, fairs, markets, shows, exhibitions and pigeon races, are banned in GB for the time being due to the avian influenza situation. All such gatherings planned over the next few days must be cancelled. :-/ :-/ http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/diseases/notifiable/disease/ai/keptbirds/index.htm#birdfair
Guest Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 if they allow shows then it will be just stalls not birds there, its a pain in the rear, shows that it must be migoratory birds as its (almost) always in suffolk/norfolk area that these infections arise...just hope mr matthews hasnt been involved this time! ..all the best with ur shows anyway ...paul.

eastcoaster Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Does this mean That birds purchased in england cannot be sent to Scotland
EAGLEOWL Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 think you will have to check with defra on that one ,will depend where the birds are and where there going ,and you stick to the bio security measures and have them in place for the arrival of the new birds .if there in the restricted zone i believe the birds will not be allowed to move .

Well why don't we just cull them all then?,that seems to be the answer to most things on here.
DOVEScot Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Does this mean That birds purchased in england cannot be sent to Scotland DEPENDS WHAT REMIT THE COURIERS TAKE IE AMTRAK
EAGLEOWL Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Well why don't we just cull them all then?,that seems to be the answer to most things on here. culling is important in any hobby/sport where breeding is involved be it for the best or ailments from pigeons to horse racing to farming. on this thread i never advised anyone to kill this pigeon .

Rubbish,if you need to cull for anything other than humane reasons [ie because your pigeons are sub quality] then you need to seriously look at your own abilities as both a loft manager and breeder.
