wings Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Hi Everyone in August i bought 2 pigeons from louella pigeon (over the Internet) i had studied there pedigrees and thought that they might be good birds, before the pigeons arrived i was sent to the Falklands with my Job. i spent 3 months there. When the birds arrived my wife put them in the stock loft. When i returned 3 months later i looked at the birds and thought that 1 was ok and the other wasn't so i phoned Louella up and asked if they would change the bird as i didn't like it and it was not what i was expecting. They refused to change the bird as i had had it for such a long period. What are peoples thoughts on this, I'am not really complaining as some of the fault was my own for not contacting somebody at home to see what the birds were like. just would like peoples thoughts on the matter.

Do they have a policy when you buy for changing or returning birds?
Guest shadow Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I think it must be the fact you had the birds so long as I have had birds from them and complained within 2 weeks and always had the problem resolved
wings Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 sorry i don't know if they do have a policy for changing birds. i was told if it had been only a couple of weeks they would have changed it but as i said i was out of the country
chickadee Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 sorry i don't know if they do have a policy for changing birds. i was told if it had been only a couple of weeks they would have changed it but as i said i was out of the country I really don't think you have a strong case for this one, as there should have really been someone there to make sure these birds were up to your expectations, and even the fact that you were out of the country is no fault of theirs so, sorry but I don't think you'll stand a chance with this one.
homebird Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 hi how much did you pay and was it that you didnt like about the bird :-/

DOVEScot Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 sorry i don't know if they do have a policy for changing birds. i was told if it had been only a couple of weeks they would have changed it but as i said i was out of the country I think that is fair, not their fault you took so lomg, unless the birds were not as described, breed, colour etc something that would not change in the 3 months, unlike health etc that could change. What is it you are not happy about?

Guest Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Need to know what their returns policy is, and, most important, what policy says on what you feel is wrong with the bird. Was involved in something similar with them a few years ago when I purchased a matched pair of stock pigeons, and the hen of the pair was barren - didn't lay eggs. Took a lot longer than 3 months to find that out, nearer a year. Their policy then was they were prepared to do a straight replacement, but I wasn't happy with the thought that she was going back to a hole in the ground.
wings Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 I have had pigeons now for only 2 seasons. so i'am not really an auithority on them, I looked at this particular pigeon and compared it to my other stock cocks, and took into account what i had been told a fancier that is helping me (he has been racing pigeons for 47 years) i wasn't 100% sure about it so i asked my friend to have a look and he confirmed what i had thought, he told me that he would not breed from it. so that was good enough for me. I have been told by many people to take advice from the best fancier in the area so i have. I'am going to try and break it to my loft in the new year any tips. Thanks everyone for your comments Wings PS i haven't breed anything from this bird,
DOVEScot Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Hi Everyone in August i bought 2 pigeons from louella pigeon (over the Internet) i had studied there pedigrees and thought that they might be good birds, quote] Maybe a case reinforce the argument of buying because of good statistics rather than good birds because of pedigrees :-/
Roland Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 They have always exchanged without any fuss. But 3 months is too long I feel. Do they know that.... can't see personally - outside of being miffed - how you can expect them to change it after three months, besides it may well be steeped in good blood that may very well throw great racers!
Guest Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 why not give it a try wings after all you have paid for it you never know it might prove you both wrong dont fill your hut but take say 4 y/b with different mates see what happens
wings Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 I have tried to add some phots of it what do you think.
wings Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 and more sorry i don't know how to add more than one picture at a time.
REDCHEQHEN Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I'am going to try and break it to my loft in the new year any tips. Thanks everyone for your comments Wings , You have very little chance of achieving this Have you handled the birds much? We have purchased birds from Louella and although happy with what they have bred - the birds bought for stock are wild and not easy to handle - and of those that have escaped - they've never been seen nor heard of since I wouldn't even attempt to settle them
wings Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 Cheers i'am happy with the Cheqs but the pied is the one i got from Louella.
Guest Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 They look ok to me too,have heard horror stories in the past but 3 months is too long to complain,unless you can really help it though you would be wise not to buy birds unseen.
wings Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 Redcheqhen, the pied is as wild as they come, hopefully with a bit of time it and patience it will come too.;
wings Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 Thanks Chrissy wise words i think hopefully i have learnt my lesson.
