REDCHEQHEN Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 You get this dilemma every year - is this a cock or hen Sire blue marcellis cock (the one that scored from 320 miles and looked knackered ;D see post distance or sprint !!)) Dam - mealie marcellis hen Forget the colour theories - cos they can't apply to this - the blue cock came from 2 red chequers It - to me looks like a cock - but has been tread by most of the young cocks in the loft :o but has not laid any eggs If a hen, she is on the big side - compared to all the other dainty ones we've got ;D What do you reckon guys and gals?

REDCHEQHEN Posted October 1, 2007 Author Report Posted October 1, 2007 Looks like a cock to me, nice pigeon, has he done any for you in the club? We don't have much luck with young bird races - its used as an education for them. This particular one returned home on the day after each race - and raced the full programme The votes that have been cast are all for a cock - yet it has shown no inclination as one - quite the opposite, and is in with all the hens currently
REDCHEQHEN Posted October 1, 2007 Author Report Posted October 1, 2007 a henny looking cock bird ;D ;D ;D

All the hens are together in the young bird loft - young and old hens - plus this one - cocks and hens were all split on 22nd September - so if it was a cock - it would be having a field day ;) ;D Unless - as you said in jest - it bats for the other side I hope it does bat for the other side - cos if it is a cock and the cocks think its a hen - and it doesn't lay any eggs - and stays batting for the other side - then it can stay with the hens - cos I haven't got room for any more cocks :
Ronnie Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Looks like a cock to me. One method i was told and use(just this morning as i had the same problem). While holding the bird in one hand and gently pull its head out by the beak if it struggles its usually a cock a hen usually lets you keep its neck extended a few min's. Try it and see
