I say hawks, as there is nothing we can do to stop them, cats you can get gadgets to keep them away, ets, has caused a lot of problems  but is cooling down, bird flu, i think as far as pigeons go is put out of proportion, and its not the bird flu that is a threat, but defra.

agreed but defra use that as the excuse, how long before "the distance"becomes but a sad memory?

Bird flu/defra. The rest apart from ets have always been there, many distance fanciers wait all season for one race.bringing their birds into condition for that event. Then bang, bird flu thats another year away.Enought to make you finnish up. 8) 8) 8)

what happens when the ALL OF ABOVE  vote reaches the top  ;D ;D ;D

then we are in deeper "members of Parliament" than i thought!!!!!

If defra bring in another ban this year im pretty sure that there are going to be quite a few distance fliers that will call it a day not much point spending months getting them ready to end up with nowhere to send them

totally agree,i believe most true distance fanciers will be sickend off. 8) 8) 8)

i have voted for infighting  , this has splintered what little pigeon fanciers there are now into smaller groups ,smaller clubs feds etc , compared to years ago ,ive seen many fanciers just pack in because of this ,   as far as ets , this comes under above,,,,,,,, cats , weve in fact advanced , with cat repelent electric boxes ,,,,,,,,,,hawks just making a bad situation worse, bird flu , really its allways" if " same as defra [who knows may never happen] bad birds, high prices , weve allways had that ah well,,, look on the good side itll soon be summer ;D ;D ;D

The number one, both past and present isn't listed ...

None of the above for me I'm afraid  ;) ;) ;) "For me", the way I look at things etc. What is going to kill this great sport in the long run is old age ?????????. Most of us !!!!!!! would be lucky to have 20 years left in front of us unfortunately  :'( :'( :'( & the few from the younger generation now, which will come on line so to speak. Will not be able to afford to race them in most cases, because of the expense & the other pressures which life we place in their path etc, sadly.

PS, I could be wrong  ;) ;) ;) but I don't think so  :P :P :P.

Enjoy.

Well I have to go with all of the above as each one has an effect with different people, ETS, although shouted about the loudest is probably the lesser threat to the sport as I dont know of anyone that has left the game over it so far where as many have packed in through the hawk problem, some over the lack of distance racing and only time will tell if they ever come back if/when the bans are lifted, cats when combined with neighbours have caused some to leave the sport, others have left through so called infighting and the politics of it all and to cap it off the price of pigeons is so great that new starters or people wanting to come into the sport are put off before even entering our ranks, I know some people who have helped others to get going, I even enjoy helping others myself but those small gestures will never save the sport on their own and now what makes it worse are corn prices, that is the one that may put an end to my pigeon racing, it is nearly at the ceiling of what I can afford to pay each week and I know others, more well off than myself, that are thinking the same. Pigeon racing like many other things is sure having a rocky ride at the moment!

In my opinion the main one isn't listed - there are more people leaving the sport than there are new people coming in to replace them, especially so the lack of youngsters coming in to the sport - its life blood.

Everywhere I go with my birds training, its the same remark from ordinary members of the public - 'don't see much of that nowadays, I remember when ....... and they would go on and name the Scottish Classic race, Rennes'
