  2. Hi, Can someone suggest a good courier to transport two pigeons from cheshire to durham. many thanks
  3. Hi Michael21, My advice would be: don't get bogged down in all the advice there is available. It can be overwhelming. Alot about keeping/racing pigeons can only be learned from experience. Take it one step at a time. The first and most important step is get the loft right. It doesn't matter what you keep your pigeons in, rabbit hutch or barn, there are two golden rules about which there probably isn't much disagreement: your pigeons home must be bone dry and well ventilated. Get that right and you are half way there. good luck
  4. A very good point. I have e-mailed the BBC.

  6. seeing a super fit widowhood cock ripping through the sky exerting every muscle and fiber in his body to cover the final few hundred yards to get home to his mate.
  7. My pigeons always bath in the loft but the floor is made of raised wooden floor grills and there is a two foot space under them. The grills get wet but they dry pretty quickly as does the loft floor which the birds have no access to.
  8. Hi Mike, think you ought to have a look at the Louella Home page.
  9. when I was 12 my grandad, using orange boxes, turned an old derelict chicken coup into a little pigeon loft. The nest box fronts were old railings. He even fitted it with a cat proof let made out of tin and weighted with scrap metal. (I wish I had a picture) When he had finished we went to a farm near the East Coast main line in Horden and asked the farmer if we could buy a couple of feathery legged tumblers which lived in a barn. When we first let the birds out they shot off onto a roof and I went off in a huff. But my grandad got them back in. I have kept and raced pigeons on and off ever since.
  10. Not knowing the cause of the problem it is difficult to comment but if the problem is that some pb users prefer personal attacks to rational arguement that is not a good enough reason to leave: RATIONAL ARGUEMENT IS THE ONLY WAY FORWARD. Plus a bit of fun as well.
  11. My view is the best way to obtain potentially good pigeons is to buy birds from a winning family of pigeons - and it doesn't make any difference if the source is a racing loft or a non-racing stud. A winning family is one in which the winning genes occur generation after generation - in sons, daughters, uncles, cousins, half brothers, great aunts; you name it. The best way to keep such a winning line going is by inbreeding around the champions, and some studs do this well. It doesn't mean that every pigeon bred will be a champion but a high proportion will have the right genes and could be champions if managed well.
  12. perhaps someone who bought one of the alleged racer x show homer crosses should ask jaap van alpen himself.
  13. Just like to say that Flyincouriers picked up six pigeons from Chesterfield this morning (2.12.08) and delivered them in perfect condition to me here in Durham at 7pm. Both Debbie and Wayne were friendly, polite and professional. Thanks to Flyincouriers.
  14. i willl have whichever one breeds champion breeders ta
  15. darken the loft slightly. The pigeons are less likely to move around. Also use box perches rather than V.
  16. Put WHITE PIGEON HAWK ATTACKS into your search engine: there's a couple of articles which suggest that birds with white rumps are less likely to be attacked. It's just possible that white pigeons are less likely to be attacked rather than more.
  17. MBpigeonguy, what family are the white pigeons that are doing well for you?
  18. Another possibility is to cross one white family with another. That way you keep your white pigeons and maybe get that increased vigour that comes with a cross.
  19. Can someone explain to me in clear English why a clubs right to refuse someone membership should make them ineligible for lottery funding?
  20. Thank you for your reply: 2506 is some speed, 85 miles an hour. Must be quite a sight to see pigeons travelling that fast. keep it up
  21. At the risk of being accused of being an idiot can I ask: 1. what was the wind on the day and 2. what sort of velocities were the 2nd, 3rd and 4th pigeons in the race doing cheers
  22. Yes, that was my understanding too.
  23. as a matter of interest which bit is the "never again" - elimar or coopers or both?
  24. Thanks for that information. I have asked elimar who they use but so far they have not replied.
