DOVEScot Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 If you have been following the Billy McKechnie threads you will understand this better Billy has been now diagnosed with the worst form of pigeon lung so he is basically alergic to all contact with birds Can Billy, although he will have no contact with them at all, other than watch them come home on race days 1. Keep birds in his name 2. Fly his birds from my property 3. Register his loft at my house This will be stop gap measure to see how he gets on with coping with even being in the same area as birds before we form a partnership and the fact he is having to get rid of his lofts at his house. Maybe others that have been told the same by consultants can tell how bad it really is when you have the worst form, which is a fungus in the lungs, or is all pigeon lung disease the same just some worse than others :-/

JADE Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 i think every case is different but some can carry on with reduced contact with pigeons while others have to pack in completely. a partnership is a great idea cos it will give him an interest without having to go in with the birds. has he been in contact with the research team for advice?

Yeh, just was not sure how it worked with us keeping the pigeons but still in his name, only trying to keep him involved and happy :-/
DUBLINFLYER Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 i personally have followed ur tread... ye know! know how much ye love something or someone sometimes it's best to let things go..... your health is your wealth an it's clear that the birds are not good for billy.... maybe it mite a good idea for billy to go as a silient partner!!! ur hands on and knowledge and he's experience an knowlodge.... who knows wot may happen!!! i remember my dad having pigeon lung an believe me it's not nice to see a man go down hill!!! him coughing at all hours of the nite etc but it aint pretty.... i know billy has pigeon lung he's best out of the game for health reasons... believe you me :B :B and i miss my dad everyday
Merlin Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Would tend to agree with Dublin Flyer as regards Billy keeping well away from birds, etc, but walking in his shoes,I would settle for a non active partnership, just to stay involved in pigeons,as possibily in this case the remedy would be more damning than the complaint, but whatever the outcome I am sure Dovescot and family as always will act in Billys best interests, now what about an Auction/Fundraiser re Billys expenses, lofts masks etc,if Billy does continue, and personally I hope he does, as long as his participation in whatever capacity, doesnt cause him any more illness, hardship or stress.
jimmy white Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Yeh, just was not sure how it worked with us keeping the pigeons but still in his name, only trying to keep him involved and happy :-/ no, this is quite above board , just as long as he gets new distances and change of loft location, I'm sure billy would love this , and i must say you have been a great help to billy . he would have to keep well away from the birds , even wear a mask in their proximity, im quite sure yourself, chickadee , and billy would love it , sitting their on a lovely sunny day [if we ever get one ;D] waiting on pigeons and having a good crack

Yes it is a suck it and see job with Billy at this time, he is doing well but a very long way to go, his health is the first priority and having spoke to him today he seems to be accepting it a bit more, hard when your only interests are being lost. :-/
