thinking it over , what other hobby would we spend so much time and money on?

i know most of us love pigeons but if we really thought about it, we all spend thousands and most of us never get anyway by doing it.

so...thinking about it , are we mad or just a little simple lol.

I don't know... Fishing / Photograthy, Kids etc. etc. all cost a fortune. It depends on what level one wishes to play.

A rod and bent pin, spiders, mouse etc. catch anything. the ole camera's take great photo's... but most hobbies are dearer than pigeons I feel. Exception is what price the birds, camera, rods you buy,

Good luck with that Paul rather you than me! Fingers crossed you have a good catch which makes it all worth it then. PS I aint too far away for delivery of a nice Bass or two lol. Roland is right though nothing is free today it all costs money especially if you want to do something on a reasonable level

pigeon racing needn't be expensive....its fanciers that make it dearer than it need be. bigger teams...bigger lofts...more feed...'better' pigeons (?)...all because those with money seek a competitive advantage. surely pigeon racing has its roots in some of the most depressed times...they raced then so why should it be expensive now. i was going to take up golf until i walked into a loft by chance...its subs are £600/year and some clubs can cost as much as a loft...NOW THATS EXPENSIVE.

Are pigeon fanciers mad?....... Of course .. But then thats what makes us different to all the others. Also I think our hobby/sport is one of the few that has no barriers or predudices and long may it continue..

Ted, use to go Cardington Mill, and the Electic place over where you are. Electric place was warm most year round and Tench was great fishing there.

Former in - laws of course are still all at Bedford. Still see them and get on Ok with them.

Call me nostalgic but i hark back to the days of the backyard lofts, pre vaccinations & all the other pills & potions, all we used was a puff of lice powder, you could get a half decent bird for half a dollar down at the pigeon market (shudehill), but like everything else we seem to need more & more extras to achieve the same results
