Guest joshdonlan Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Since i havent yet got an avairy on my new loft for the stock, does anyone let them bath inside the section? I know that it may get the floor wet and damp, but if its mopped up would it cause any harm? Josh
oscar_ Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 in the past ive put down bath towel first ,then dryed the floor afterwords with no ill effects but make sure its a dry day to give the floor a chance to dry .
just ask me Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 also a burner a gas torch on hand to dry the loft floor well one of these comes in handy anyway to burn away all the nasties
Wiley Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 used to, one of the biggest regrets, caused a very high count of Cocci, even with gas burner at hand, which I myself was very surprised at. Would never do again, stock shed if u aint got aviary hand bath them
Guest spin cycle Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 i've got same problem having just swapped stock to new section...reckon i might hang a sputnik as temp. job and put bath in that
DAVIDL Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 did it a few weeks ago...never do it again, water all over the place then spilt it lifting the bath out, took days to dry out. ive got my floor covered in chip board and luckily it didnt lift at the edges...
Guest joshdonlan Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 do those anti spill sputnik baths work?
Guest asha Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 do as i do,pinch your mrs meat tin she cooks the sundayroast in(only about £1 to buy anyway) and put in the trap/sputnick,works a treat, loft floor stays dry.
Peckedhen Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 If your mrs objects, use a cat litter tray.
Guest spin cycle Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 so ...i'll upset my wife and her pussy (evil) (evil)
Roland Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Now I do like that pigeon. If handles - to my liking - as good as he looks I'd like a dozen lol. Mind still has race rubber on, so may be a bit behind lol. But really like it.
pjc Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 I have to bath some in the loft but place the bath on fresh dry shavings and then when they have finished empty the bath outside and sweep up the shavings, that way the floor stays dry.
tomm1e Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 My pigeons always bath in the loft but the floor is made of raised wooden floor grills and there is a two foot space under them. The grills get wet but they dry pretty quickly as does the loft floor which the birds have no access to.
PATTY BHOY Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 know a guy who baths his birds every friday morning on the loft floor, never had any problems.
DOVEScot Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 We had a bath in the aviary and the only reason I toot it out was I split the aviary into three sections so it was no longer practical, the floor was well drained and never had any problems It now sits outside for them all to use
Lennut Tar Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Since i havent yet got an avairy on my new loft for the stock, does anyone let them bath inside the section? I know that it may get the floor wet and damp, but if its mopped up would it cause any harm? Josh Absolute No No Josh, as far as I'm concerned in my view. The purpose of having a pigeon loft etc, is to have something which is safe & healthy for the birds. Now having a bath inside the loft on a regular basis etc, does not fit that criteria. for what little I know. With a small amount of effort etc you could build a small sputnick with a mesh floor, then you & your birds would both be better off, at least in my view. Enjoy.
Guest joshdonlan Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 right then guys, im going to look to make a replacement door which fits where the dowel door fits, which can be removed anbd replaced with another door with a sputnik fitted into it. Thanks all Josh
OLDYELLOW Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 the dowl door be fine just remove perspex and add a trap then you can shut the trap off when your not letting birds out or in bath stops them getting damp when it rains and stops dominant birds claiming the trap and if flitting to and from bath the birds wont be truely resting
Guest kev d Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 i used to bath the birds in the loft ,now ive built a aviary on the front raised of the floor only cost about £20 to make done in one afternoon
Guest spin cycle Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 put sputnik on (lash up)....put bath in ....birds showed no interest at all (dizzy)...need time to get used to it i suppose.
Chris Little Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Bathed ours in the loft for years, put an old sack or a large piece of cardboard on floor to absorb most of the water. Only do this on dry days

I know that it may get the floor wet and damp, but if its mopped up would it cause any harm? Josh i wouldnt advice that , if you couldnt get the floor dried right away ,, if it lay damp could be a haven for cocci oocysts [eggs ] and worms , you could allways mop it up , with disinfectant then dry it with a fan heater , but a lot of work and time, i would try and get a set of 4 show pens , put them outside ,on a decent day, then lightly spray them with tepid water, with an empty mr muscle container [or the likes ] but really better with the floor bone dry
andrecrock Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 On my old loft,I painted a part of my coridor floor with bitchimen, drilled a hole in the middel were a plug fits in.After a bath i just sweep the access water down the hole mop up and job one,the sun soon dry the rest out.never had any coxi or any other problems... andrecrock
