PATTY BHOY Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 what do the members think would be a better option for locating a pigeon loft,on a farm or allotment,no room at house.
Guest Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 a farm mutch more secure as long as its not far from farmhouse dave
cemetary Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 All depends PATTY BHOY, if i was in the position, i would put mine in an allotment, there is always someone there for security. Put it in my garden if you wont. ;D ;D ;D Are you having to move your one like.
PATTY BHOY Posted December 27, 2008 Author Report Posted December 27, 2008 loft would be 300metres from farmhouse.
Delboy Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 Whatever has best access to water and electricity would take priority with me m8
grizzal Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 I;m lucky ours is in our garden, but from the other 2, I would go with allotment. You would have other members +lofts and lots of banter :) all the best

PATTY BHOY Posted December 27, 2008 Author Report Posted December 27, 2008 the allotment that i could use has about 8 lofts on it,was thinking of the same prob`s.
Guest Freebird Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 Really depends on the farm. Some are well tidy and well managed for vermin etc. Loft design would be important to keep nasty's at bay. Only really you can decide as you can see both in the flesh and way up the pros and cons. If your loft was on stilts with inverted cones half way up I think that would keep everything from gaining access.

Guest joshdonlan Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 id go for the farm, lots more space and you can do what you like.
gangster Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 if you decide a farm then use scaffolding to sit the loft on also id advise scaffold polesup behind the loft 2 stop the wind pushing it over on exceptionally bad days
Guest youngzimmy Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 YES FARMS AND THE FIRST THING THAT COMES TO MIND RATS THERE URINE AND THERE DROPPINGS BEING CARRIED INTO LOFT ON YOUR FEET ALSO MICE AND OTHER RODENTS
cemetary Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 If you decide to move to the alotments, you will already no the lads i pressume, you can also get something fixed out with times for letting the birds out etc. All the best on what ever way you decide mate.
Guest youngzimmy Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 OF CORSE IF YOU DECIDED ON THE FARM IDEA A PORTO CABIN WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA FOR A LOFT WITH ITS METAL LEGS EXTENDED AND A TRAY OF STRONG DISINFECTANT OUTSIDE THE LOFT TO STEP IN BEFORE ENTERING THE LOFT
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 i am on a farm its brilliant, in the fact that i can do what i want the only problem is rats, like what has been said, but this year is the first time i had them bad in 6 years, and the farmer got right on it and they gone again, if you get on well with the owner , you will do better on the farm!!! free corn, nesting material, water electric, ect ect view from my loft, farm house on right
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 view from front of loft black ringed area is were the birds come through

Lennut Tar Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 what do the members think would be a better option for locating a pigeon loft,on a farm or allotment,no room at house. I would choose the farm every day of the week, over an allotment situation. Providing the farmer is Ok with the birds & you being there at any time of the day/night etc. It just allows you to do so much more in your own time sort of thing doing your own thing, without worrying about what the bloke next door is doing with his pigeons etc on a allotment. "Rats' you will find them every where you go "Do what I do" on a regular basis, Feed them !!!!!!!!!!! (grin grin) & for some strange reason they seem to disappear "Strange That". Enjoy.
