Guest Vic Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I am in two minds, whether to buy a new computer (as I have had this old type Packard Bell for far too long) or an electronic timing system. It seems that I will plump for the computer, as the ets systems future is blank indeed. 50% of fanciers with the ets system have got them for nothing. Let's face it, for a ten second advantage at the most, with the first arrival, compared with the ordinary clock, is it worth the grovelling and arguments? Can anyone recommend a good pc set up, in the region of four to five hundred pounds?

PigeonTracker Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 I've got an excellent PC system here going spare, cost me 2k to get it made for me by Dell a year or so ago. Was going to put it on ebay but can't be bothered with the amount of nigerian bidders on there. ??) It doesn't eat or drink so if there is ever a needy fancier looking for a good PC I'll have it here as I prefer laptops myself.
The Navigator Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 my Acer fried within 3 months so bought a decent comp from hp and took out insurance so out goes wrong repaired free of charge worth the £6 a month Was it not on warrenty if only 3 months old. What you have to remember is that Acer, HP, Del etc etc etc are all made up of componants from the same manufacture, ie Quanta, Wistron, Intel etc etc etc. So it does not matter which one you buy.
OLDYELLOW Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 as soon as added bigger hard drive seal broken so guarentee null and void
Roland Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Mate bought a real decent Lap top for £250 new with usual Guarantees'.

Two things that make it important where you buy, the manufacturing technique and the quality of machine purchased. I have a Toshiba lap top I've been using solely and it's very good for ordinary day to day wireless internet but the graphics card uses the Ram and is a big drain, graphics with its own ram would improve the machine tremendously. Someone metioned to go to PC World I was looking a few weeks back and I wouldn't have bought one of them, they were all selling blu ray, a technology that may yet fail, the basics like speed of machine, the chip, size of HD, graphics , video card, card reader, cache RAM were all poor, in as much they all had one or two good basic features but then rubbish others!
