greenlands Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Straw and tobacco stalks. There's a pigeon in there somewhere.Lindsay
kirky Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 any reason why they dont get there own thay will get there own if you dont put straw in, but thay tend to pick unsutable things like nails bits of wire & twigs these will damage eggs and injure chicks,
Guest spin cycle Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 any reason why they dont get there own well of course in the case of 'prisoners' the fancier has to provide everything. i gave mine straw and beech hedge twigs. my birds flying out found bean straw. some birds seem to build huge nests...whilst others seem to make a circle of straw and lay in it.
jimmy white Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 i think tobacco stalks are the thing now..[i was allways going to try pine needles ,, they say they are good for getting rid of the nasties etc] remember years ago, my old man [dad] allways sprinkled his woodbine fag ends [butts] around the nest , swore blind this got rid of mite etc [he wasnt so daft ;D ;D ;D] ]

Dave barrie Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 i put a square of 3 ply soaked in creosote under nest pan, never had any probs with mites or lice.
Roland Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Loverly looking bird there greenlan, send her down here any time lol. Just a reminder, that some may remember me posting. Do a trial first and be suprised. Put some Listerene - Mouth wash - ina spray container, just a norma' 1/2 pint size like. then go outside, in garden, around the car etc. where you see any smidges, gnats, moths etc. and just spray the air. Hey Presto the pee of quick! Now also try a solution of just 3% parazone and spray that into the loft. You'll be suprised. Rid of creepy crawlies, and any flying creatures. Take a note, and stock of the effects as to their' ability. very cost effective too. Like when on a picnic, walk of the fields, or waiting for the birds... a spray of listerene makes it a smidgen free pleasure with no gnats etc.
