Gutted before I’ve even started.

I work, so my National pigeons were taken to the marking station by another fancier, so tonight I collected my marking sheet and to my horror I discovered that only 11 of the 12 pigeons had been marked. I scanned the list and discovered that 07 T 29437 a blue w/f had not been recorded on the ets sheet, this pigeon was heavily pooled and has a racing record 2nd to none including being 1st Ace pigeon in the WOESRC and 3 times in the top 10 from 5000 plus pigeons.

I quickly realized that not much could be done, I know the guys that would have marked him and they are good people and im sure it was just an error. I was unsure what to do so I phoned the sect of NFC but I received a answer machine so I phoned the chairman as I wanted to explain what happened and see if it was possible to change my pools, plus I didn’t want to ask for my money back without notifying someone at the first instance.

I explained to chairman what happen in a calm manor, yet his attitude and response was not only in bad taste but disgraceful, his words were “why should I waste time on something which is clearly your fault†followed by “ok let me rephrase that I cant do anything and doubt there is anything to do about itâ€. As I pointed out as a minimum I should receive a refund for the pools and entry as I did provide a race entry sheet with 12 pigeons and pools. From the start to finish his attitude and general approach was appalling. Whilst I accept that it was a mistake maybe if the chairman would have benefitted from a slightly more professional and articulate approach.  Our telephone ended on a very sour note.

As for me, I will spend tomorrow hoping that the best pigeon I have ever owned doesn’t turn first and bring tears to my eyes.

Regards

Stuart Wilcox

now i would have thought getting the bird back would rate right up there [and having read a bit about you i know thats true enough]i believe you once won an  appeal once ref a race so you should expect to be stuffed

Well a real sickener, let's hope one of the other class acts does the job for you. Don't let it cconsume you, move on, you've many more top days to come. I really hope he's beaten by a couple of loftmates tomorrow, cause if he is you'll be real close.

dont see a problem there with the pools   refund,  but what i do see is the member looking at the pool sheet  and not  consentrating on what he or she  is doing, with the result being they know  your :D pooled birds,  and  can  be overawed by the amout you fanciy your birds worth that they put there tongue away,  and forget about your bird :-/

dont want to alarm you mate but  the pigeon could be in your loft,  and you forgot to take it  or stolen from your basket, as the people who know the performace of  your bird would be interested  in handling it at any  given time, strange as it seems its one of your better birds that has  come to the fore :o :o :):o

Terrible to hear Stuart and i hope you get 1 or 2 crackers from the other eleven, do the NFC not double rubber race pigeons?? as up hear in Scotland with the SNFC ets pigeons get 1 rubber put on top of the metal ring as a precaution in case of any sort of mishap whether that be human or mechanically and to be truthful would have it no other way with having a backup in the big races.

cheers

Hi lads

Thanks for the kind remarks.

We know the bird was in the basket as myself and Nigel Templer spent a couple of minutes talking about him and what his chances were.

He is an ugly bugger so i dont think anyone would pick him out of a crowd.

as far as im concerned the people putting the bird through should check at the marking station that all birds have registered, cant see why they wouldnt...as everyone knows mistakes happen but this is something that shouldnt happen.

the marking station can see that 12 birds enterred and only 11 through marking.

feel for you stu m8,i know how you feel as a few yrs back i had a good bird and went to the club to have it read,it was thrown out because the rubber number was read/wrote down wrong at marking.

I actually don't think that Nigel is that bad looking!

Gutted for you Stuart, but if he does come, it will be personal pride if he is well up, even though he won't feature in the result.  My opinion is that it is up to the person bringing the birds for marking that should check that the bird has gone through ok.  He has two chances -Firstly when the bird is being marked (audible signal from ETS marker), and afterwards when collecting printed off sheet.  Of course the marker is not blameless 'cos the audible signal and digital display will have shown that the bird had not been marked.  Don't let it spoil your race Stu.

my parents were marking at Didcot on Thursday and were amazed at the amount of ETS rung birds that were being marked in the normal, rubbered manner!

Does that indicate the faith members have in important races with ETS?

WHAT IF YOU GOT A CLOCK SET , THEN ON HIS RETURN REMOVE THE ETS RING PUT IT IN THE CLOCK AND RECORD TIME? SURE IVE HEARD OF SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THIS BEFORE?

I would like to thank Sid Barkel for taking the time to call me this morning to discuss the marking of “37â€.

As far as im concerned the matter is closed however I will say to others that if you decide to take a senior position in such a prestigious organization as the National Flying Club understand that its members would expect you to act and communicate in an appropriate, professional and polite manner when dealing them, as a minimum.

Good luck to everyone today.

Good luck Stuart, sorry to hear of yet another unexplainable ETS problem.I would imagine this bird as been raced before with no marking problems but might be worth checking your ring allocation list just to see all is well on there, have had 17 rings in the last few weeks which suddenly wouldnt read on the marker, checked with Mark Palmer and its to do with  the last update we had, ETS rings with code starting C50 now wont read.

the very best of luck stu,, the blame is on the markers here,, every bird has to be checked against the ring number that appears on the master or clock,, it can't be basketed until they correspond.. I would be bloody furious..

fingers crossed you get another rising star before the unmarked..

I feel for you and wish you all the best for today..

Well I hope it's the common? mistake of removing the member's clock from the club base station before the print-off is completed Stuart, and that your bird is marked OK, just not printed-off.

Otherwise, people at marking aren't doing the job to the required standard. I regularly mark using ETS and it's a treble shout, (1) I have the handler confirm the ring number I shout out - the fact that the number is up on my screen shows it's registered,  (2) I ask the member to confirm the member's birds marked total shown on my screen agrees with the number he has away. (3) the club copy of the print-off is signed by marker and member.

So it would need a huge hole in the club's system for a mistake like that not to have been picked up at marking, and I have fingers and everything else crossed for you Stuart. Hope you have a good Race.
