Guest Denny Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 I am sure I have read somewhere recently that white pigeons are no way near as fast as coloured (blues being one of the most preferred). Which is why most avid racers get rid of white birds from their lofts. Is this a fact or is it just another one of those wives tales? (shrug)
Tony C Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 To me anything bred for colour over racing ability will always be inferior, a family of whites fall into this category but there again I wouldn’t condemn the odd white thrown.
Beanz Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 In my opinion colour doesn't make the pigeon, you are bound to get more winners which are blue's or cheq's as there are more of them about. Paul
George UK Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 i am a learner never rased birds but white ar ok i would say only had bird 35 years
George UK Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 never had a problem with white bird racers only birmingham rollers lol
Dave barrie Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 sorry to differ but i have a white grizzle hen that won northallerton 237 mls to me on 1207ypm two yr ago, sent to rotherham ,home late in dark, more red than white, ripped open from neck to under wing, stitched up and rested for the year, told by clubmate that bird was useless for racing due to hawk strike, however 2008saw her race programme up to rotherham again re paired ,sent chippin after comback racethornton 102mls to me then sent to hastings, fair enough no card, just out of race time ,might be too slow, but what the hell, she has got guts she has bred me four y/b all were white grizzle, none home after 150 mls, is it easy target for hawk or maybe too slow, you tell me;;;; :-/ :(
Guest Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 they could be hawk bate but if you get, agood one it doesnt matter what colour
Merlin Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 To me anything bred for colour over racing ability will always be inferior, a family of whites fall into this category but there again I wouldn’t condemn the odd white thrown. If bred for racing ability, whites are as good/bad as any of them
gooner Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 im sure if roland jannsenns read this thread he would have something to say as we all know he has alot of white grizzles that breed and race very well
pjc Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 they are just as fast as anything else, its all down to breeding, exactly the same as it is with blues and cheqs etc
joe61 Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 what is the point in having super fast birds when there is the broblem of inprobable velocity jmo oh happy days
just ask me Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 im sure if Roland janssens read this thread he would have something to say as we all know he has alot of white grizzles that breed and race very well im not sure about this i read the results inside out as i find its the best way too find new birds and too tell u the truth i dont see too many winning week in week out with the Roland janssens of course there are a few but for the amount that bought over this side of the world i would have to say they have been disappointing to say the least i also know one or two good fanicers that had them and got rid too
Guest Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 pure whites sold to a chap in london in 08 three winners and won the b/buyer race :-/
joe61 Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 jam a lot of people dont say what they race the rollands race very well oh happy days
T_T Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 I have always thought that it was something to do with the feather texture of a white /white based pigeon that led to people feeling that a white coloured pigeon was inferior. I have always preferred a Bl, Red, Ch etc in the hand over a white pigeon myself. Just look at the pigeon " VIRGO " pure white so again it could be down to peoples preferences.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 I am sure I have read somewhere recently that white pigeons are no way near as fast as coloured (blues being one of the most preferred). (shrug) i would have to say that if you have 99 blue/ chequers in a race and one white then you would say your statements true , however if you had 99 whites and one blue im sure it wouldnt be , its just due to the fact that most dont like whites and is a less common colour , and as some have said if there been bred only for colour and not racing ability then they are going to be less likely to perform
THE PRIEST Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 A few years ago me and a mate bought 2 dordin white hens i won from 330 miles with mine and he won from 400 miles with his. So both these white hens won from water racing in the same season as yearlings. So whites do win races. michael
Guest Paulo Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 two types good ones and bad ones colour isn't really a factor
little sam Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 One white this year (From my grandads loft efore he died) which is now raced by a flyer in my club took 2nd fed and wasbeaten by a secind, So muct be decent pigeons and yes its a white, Rapido Buscheart,
just ask me Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 jam a lot of people dont say what they race the rollands race very well oh happy days only saying what i see cant do any more than that
kipper Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 i have a mate who works as a game keeper , took me to a kestrals nestin which we found 9 rings of dead birds 4 were from whites , 2 from white pieds, i think that they may be more vunrable to attack , therefore less returns , may put people off,
Guest ljb107 Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 i have a mate who works as a game keeper , took me to a kestrals nestin which we found 9 rings of dead birds 4 were from whites , 2 from white pieds, i think that they may be more vunrable to attack , therefore less returns , may put people off, lol kestrels and pigeons!
Guest kev d Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 virgo , who is owned by fountainhead stud won the yb nat nfc from averanches im right in thinking was pure white . dont know the year though .
hotrod Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 i have a mate who works as a game keeper , took me to a kestrals nestin which we found 9 rings of dead birds 4 were from whites , 2 from white pieds, i think that they may be more vunrable to attack , therefore less returns , may put people off, no way it was a kestral, they usually go for mice and voles etc not other birds, and they are far too small to carry a pigeon back to the nest, a sparrowhawk hen which is much much bigger cant carry a pigeon , so the kestral has no chance
