looking very bad

6th of August 2009

5.10pm

Looks like something terrible has happened, either a clash or a predator attack. We're at 18 birds and it doesn't look like we'll get any big bunches at this stage as fatigue sets in. The birds that have arrived have the wings down and have flown their heart out. We're very disappointed waiting here, after all our good fortune in the last few weeks... murphy's law that something would go wrong. All we can do is wait and see what happens.

Had a long day and after nearly 4 and a half hours a single bird dropped, owned by the Cartel Syndicate, followed a few minutes later by 2 more. After 5 hours we're only up to 11 birds at this time...

think it was over 500

The birds are up at 10.50am from Dungannon where it's a pleasent morning with light SW winds (on the nose), with 110 miles ahead of them. The wind is brisk enough here but not too bad. I'll keep you up to date as anything arrives..

BIRDS WILL WORK IN OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS, THEY WILL NEED PLENTY OF REST AND MAYBE THE FINAL RACE WILL HAVE TO BE CHANGED, I HOPE THEY GET MOST BACK AS I WOULDNT LIKE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED LAST YEAR. DIDNT ENTER THIS YEAR FOR PERSONAL REASONS, HAD 6 IN IT LAST YEAR WITH MY MATES GOT 1 TO THE FINAL RACE IN CHESTER. NO BIRDS RETURNED LAST YEAR.

WAS UP THERE LAST WEEK DURING THE RACES, FIRST THING I BOUGHT WAS A RAIN COAT, I MYSELF THINK HE SHOULD SEND THEM TO SENNENCOVE WITH 1 OF THE BIG FEDS IE THE YOUNGBIRD NATIONAL, I FLY 223 MILES SO IN GALWAY THEY WOULD FLY A LOT MORE BUT HAVE MORE CHANCE OF GETTING SOMETHING HOME, I HOPE ITS JUST A BLIP AND THEY TUMBLE IN OVER THE NEXT DAY OR SO BUT TO ME SOMETHING IS WRONG IF IT TAKES NEARLY 5 HOURS TO DO 110MILES. GALWAY IS A LOVELY PLACE BUT A HARD PLACE TO RACE PIGEONS TO.
