This is a race report for the 3rd race for the newly formed Ballina RPC. This is the only pigeon club in Mayo, Ireland and we also believe the first ever! There are currently 14 members, most of whom have never raced before, so its all pretty new to most, so please no put downs regarding birdage, velocity etc, we only clock one pigeon each per race:

Ballina RPC Longford 29/08/09

7 members sent 69 birds, liberated in a west wind, getting stronger en-route.

1st ANDREW BEVERIDGE 862.26

2nd DALE HOPKINS 859.57

3rd MATTHEW BOCCACCIO 846.25

4th AMBY GREHAM 837.65

5th RICK HILTON 774.18

6th DARIUS 721.79

For the third YB race of the year, Ballina RPC were at Longford, where 7 members sent 69 birds. The birds were basketed sunday morning again and transported to the lib site the same morning, where they were libbed at 12.30. The weather was very changeable once again, and was virtually a west wind, making it a head wind for most of the flyers.

The winner was our resident "Fifer" (well all the best people have roots in Fife :D ), Andrew Beveridge or Bev to his friends. Bev's timer is the same bird as the last race, being bred from the cormack lines, she is only a small hen but she must like flying into a head wind!

Taking second, and only a couple of yards behind the winner was 13 years old dale Hopkins. His pigeon was the nestmate to his first bird from the last race. In the first 3 races Dale has now taken 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and we only clock one bird each per race, top flying Dale, a star in the making as long as he sticks to the feathered birds!!

Taking 3rd club, was Matt Boccaccio. This was Matts first race, so straight in there wth the cards. Matts bird was a Gaby Vandenabeele that he purchased off B.McCann & sons. This is also matts first ever year at racing, or even keeping, racing pigeons. He has a terrific team of youngbirds, and with his enthsiasm i'm sure it won' be long before his birds hit the front of the pack.

Well done again to all competitors on what turned out another stiff test for the birds. There was infact only 20 seconds between 1st and 3rd, with overfly being the deciding factor. On the whole returns were very good, with just a few empty perches, so we should have another good turn out for the next race.

Hi, Rick Hilton flies around 35, the rest would be 55-60 miles. I'm about 30 miles on, but have not raced my birds yet.

the only problem i can see is depends on how far south  you fly from is the wind direction usually from the west which will push he birds out to the east coast  which may cause clashing ................. but good luck............

Glen, we hopefully wont be going to far east at the moment and we try to time our races around all the big organisations like NIPA, so hopefully not too much clashing for our small numbers.

Our next race is Longford or Tullamore, if any new members send probably be Longford.
