Guest Paulo Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 I've got a great hen thats winning for me shes a two year old now so far she has won:- 3 x 1st club 1 x 1st fed 1 x 5th fed 1 x 4th fed Fastest bird in WDA non amal race but same as topping it beating 5,056 birds Shes bred:- Flash 1 x 1st club 1 x 4th club 28th WDA YB National over 6,000 birds in this race. I also took a daughter off her flashes nestmate who bred:- my 2nd club 2nd fed winner this weekend. A blue cock who was only beaten by loftmate. They both trapped at same time. I've bred 6 YB;s off her this year to race. What would you do race her as a three year old or put her to stock?
peterpau Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 If you have plenty o' young 'uns race her. How longs a piece o' string? Do you have enough? Only you can answer that one.
Guest Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Stock, no question for me. You have found a hen that can reproduce her like, it often takes many years to do that. I would look after the cock with her as well just in case they are perfect for each other. But I would try her with some other cocks ASAP to see if she is a super breeder. Look after her, without breeders that will breed winners you can't win races.
Guest Paulo Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 If you have plenty o' young 'uns race her. How longs a piece o' string? Do you have enough? Only you can answer that one. Took plenty off her and I want to put her to stock as I've read you don't race your top producers. My dad wants to race her as he thinks she can win even more. Problem is she only come to chipping eggs and I'm racing roundabout next year as natural hasn't really been working well with old ones cause of the competion in our area.

boxer Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 PUT HER TO STOCK BEFORE THE HAWKS HAVE HER AND BREED LOADS OFF HER WITH ALL YOUR COCKS AND SEE HOW THEY DO GOODLUCK WITH WHAT U DECIDE :)
Craig05 Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Stock and enjoy many years of timing in her off spring build a family around her. all it takes is one bad race and you could be kicking yourself
schouwman71 Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 If shes a good hen paul and u like her very much,u know she can breed you good birds so why keep racing her when her children can do it for you,if she was mine iwould be putting her to stock, ive stocked hens with less performances and still bred winners, use you own thoughts paul u will learn from them.i know many who have kept good racing hen racing only to loose them unexpectedly, and that includes me.good luck. les
Guest Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Proven bird says it all, stock loft no question.
Roland Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Stock, no question for me. You have found a hen that can reproduce her like, it often takes many years to do that. Yes would have a few latebreds scattered starting about now.
just ask me Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 lost one this year that had bred winners
Guest Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Put her to stock, as she is showing signs of producing the goods. I would pair her to 2 or 3 of your best Cocks. If you carry on racing her, you could rue the day she doesn't come home.
Guest bakes Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 she has resurved her perch in the stock loft if it was me anyway hope she breeds you some crackers mate all the best bakes.
Guest shadow Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 stock loft or you could send her once to often

She has do none till this year in Racing raced all races as a young bird and yearlying . She has breed a 1st Carluke Club 2st Secton 14th Open Lanarkshire Fed and 3th,8th,18th Clydedale Midweek Club. One good thing is that i have her my mum and dad in Stock Loft i have taking 8 young birds of them this 2 going back to stock loft. If you have her mum and dad then Racing her a Few more Chose Races then put her to stock.
Roland Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Mind, you must send your best racers to win.... also rans are just that, Also ran'. - Ok flew lol. Would scatter eggs off her this close season etc. and race again nxt, maybe for the next 3 years or so.
PIGEON_MAN Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 She as proved herself as a racer,no guarantee she will be any good in the stock loft.
PIGEON_MAN Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 lost one this year that had bred winners That one I would never race, but wouldnt put a bird to stock just because it had won races.
little sam Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 If i was you i would be basing a family around this hen while i still could
peterh127 Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Be very careful. Taking 4 or 5 rounds a year off her and racing can takes it out of her. Not like cocks. Stock loft i think
Guest chrisss Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 stock, or your best bet is to send her down to me [to try a few out of her just to make sure, i am sure you understand ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D]
grizzal Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 stock loft or you could send her once to often like most of us has done
Ronnie Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 The question to ask yourself is if you stock her your holding her back from a great future as a racing pigeon. Can you afford to lose her? have you many young of her to carry the family on if she go's down.If it was me i would be racing her for at least one more season but picking and choosing the race. Also if you stock her is there any more racers to fill the gap left behind.I would also pair her to a son of hers as well.
