kev01293 Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 im thinking of trying hemcore as a floor dressing but it would be great if anyone on pb who uses it could give me their opinion on it ? kev
retired Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I think its fantastic I used it under my grills in the large loft and on its own in the stock loft. I have now done away with the grills and will use only Hemcore in all sections. I put a generous layer of it down (4-5 inches) and let it settle down.
chaz Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I have tried it a long time ago and found it a bit lightweight so it tended to just get blown in to the corners , I always preffered "eazibed" much heavier and stays where you put it a lot better , I will be trying "nedzbed pro" next season it is chopped rape straw I believe but has a eucalyptus dressing so has a pleasant smell
greenlands Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Never tried it yet, does it stick to your feet or is it not too bad. http://www.hemcore.co.uk/bedding.php Lindsay.

kev01293 Posted October 22, 2009 Author Report Posted October 22, 2009 ive been trying kiln dried sand but it seems to attract damp when its raining and also it gets stuck to your shoes and ends up being trod everywhere ive checked my loft over and cant find anywhere that water might get in so im assuming that the sand is just absorbing moisture from the damp weather so am looking for an alternative
Guest wesley48 Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 i tried it in my stockloft and baskets this year, was not impressed, abit flat and went abit stringey after a while , could not get the litter to work, will give it a miss from now on
Fair Play Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I now prefer Easibed recent bags of Hemcore has been full of fibres which collect on the birds feet giving the impression of wearing fur boots ;D
Guest lenwadebob Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I think its fantastic, been using it all this year in stock loft and young bird loft. Put it down in February and have just changed it today, was pleased how dry and clean the floor was when I lifted it.

stantheman Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I use easibed and only change it once a year i rake it over every week and top it up with some new easibed since doing this birds look well on it and no youngbird sickness the floor underneath is bone dry, ask Bakes on this site how well the birds look on it also cuts workload down as i struggle to bend down to scrape out floors

Guest IB Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Have had it down for around a month now, on top of the litter I had. Certainly a lot less dust just turning it over with a shovel, rather than putting through a riddle as I did before. Other than when the birds exercise their wings standing on it, it doesn't blow about. Citronella in it as insect repellant does work, I've seen no insect flying or crawling in it, came across odd beetle and woodlouse before, those I didn't like.. One bit I am unsure of: instructions say 'add 5 litres water to each bale to activate it'. Activate what? It also says you can put it straight down on the floor (fresh from the bale?) and mix it in with any existing litter, and that's what I did. Did anyone add water, and what did it do?
frank-123 Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 http://www.hemcore.co.uk/distributors.php?C=78 used easi bed with my youngbirds this year they never use the perches they just lay down all day got a bit dusty but i never changed it since they were weaned until you brought in your 98% rule at wetherby i cant make the lsc night tomorrow i am at a party but going to try and get away early then join you drunks

OLDYELLOW Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 i have used it for a while but after pairing up i removed it , am planning to put in for winter then remove it when weather gets better adding water makes it swell i think , i think this is for horses and keeps it from blowing about , i havent tried it wet drys good enough for me i sprinkle lime on top every other day and keep turning it , saves work for winter when daylight and good weathers in short supply
