Haven't got a clue. All I know is that youngsters are conspicuous by there absence, and that can't be good for the future of the hobby :-/ My son is the youngest at 35

Well im the second or third youngest in my club at 31 . we have young jack fox at 16 or 17 as our youngest then we have chris leeks son at 17 then it must be me and glen parsons at 31 with andy parsons next then chris leek and nick barron so we have a lot of younger members and it is a very competitive club . But i think the sport is finally moving in the right direction at long last by allowing ets ect which helps the likes of me the working man as i have to work some sat mornings and carnt be there to time my birds so if it wasnt for ets i think there would be alot of other younger members like me who would have to pack in

nearly 26% over 60 years over 45% 50+ given that most fanciers that are 65+ will be forced to give up either for money reasons or just not been able to cope how long do you think we can continue?

It will be difficult to determine the average age in our club but it ranges from 11yrs as youngest to into the 80,s as the oldest .

We also have non active members but on average about 30 active members which makes us the 2nd largest club in the Eastern Province Union in South Africa .

We cater for the Juniors with their own Junior section where they compete at their own level against each other including prizes for position on race day .

They are sponsored by the Union for five pigeons at no cost to them as the cost is being carried by the Union and they can only participate on the North route.

They can however compete on senior level with more entries and compete in both directions but at their own cost .

We do have quite a number of Juniors and all are active .

The Union specifies that they should still be attending school and should be able to handle their own birds come basketing time and strike their own clocks in and out , same as with the senior section .

There is an interest out there with the youngsters given the opportunity .

Frank , the club takes it even further . We have a custodian in the club taking care of the Juniors , organizing prizes for them , organizing birds for them from members should they need young birds , trophy,s and certificates at seasons end during prize giving event etc .

We try increase numbers as they are the future fanciers after we have passed on .

We have 23 members now and I would say at a guess I'm about 3/4 way down the list from the eldest and I'm 55 so will probably get my time out in the sport then it's all over . Very sad in my opinion.  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Kids have far to much time playing with play stations, computers etc and all the gadgets  they can get there hands on nowadays . Don't want to sound to old but  when we were kids it was a football over the park and sticks boggies etc . also black and white teles with only bbc 1 and stv and that's your lot we  never had a lot but we were always happy and that's when some of us took to the doos  as nothing else to do . It was a good life though and the worst offence we ever committed was play chap door run. FANTASTIC LIFE AND WISH IT COULD COME BACK ;D ;D ;D ;D

If any young member or school kid wanted to join our club I would personally make sure  they were given free membership till they started working , a clock and some doos to get them going
