BLACK W F Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 jim donaldson by miles no one in his league
DUBLINFLYER Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 i was reading in the rp the other day and ronnie evans & son put up some great performances, winning the channel averages in the UNC this year, so well done to them, very good read too
john@formula 1 lofts Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Look for David Hales in the BICC international races over the last couple of years. he also won Dax (I think in the BICC in 2005)
Guest bakes Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 1 wouldnt put it past armstrong/wheatley pigeons being able to do these distances they won most of the mnfc races last season champions of mnfc and trully dissurve it couldnt of happen two.to nicer lads all the best.
leighton1984 Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 i do think the scotch birds are some of the best for the long distance as they fly over some hard ground if you look at some that fly 600miles plus they fly on the very flat land when the birds have to work in the valley's takes good birds to win races you look at the Dutch lads they fly 600miles on the day but it is flat.
Delboy Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 jim donaldson by miles no one in his league Totally disagree with you, imo top fanciers everywhere. Granted Jim Donaldson is best in North section but put any number of top fanciers up there next to him and they would do the same as him.
Albear Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 i do think the scotch birds are some of the best for the long distance as they fly over some hard ground if you look at some that fly 600miles plus they fly on the very flat land when the birds have to work in the valley's takes good birds to win races you look at the Dutch lads they fly 600miles on the day but it is flat. Now I don't want to turn this into a national or regional slanging match. I do think there are great Scottish long distance men but not many of them have the opportunity to fly 700 mile and that will perhaps be once a year? (And I'm 50% English [i believe], 25% Welsh and 25% Irish, my boy has a mother that's 50% Welsh & 50% Italian, what a mix he is!) If you want to know the best 600/700 milers you need to look at some of the BICC members who don't fly it once a year but 3 or 4 times a year (I'm not a BICC man myself). IF you want top 600 mile blood then yes you go no better than Scotland. And I always used to be of the opinion that the finest were the Irish but they haven't flown a long distance race in years have they I mean 600 mile to most, I think their main race is tharound the 500 mark. Don't take this wrong however cause the route they fly has to be the toughest next to Lerwick down to Wales and the West Country
robbiedoo. Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 disagree with you there delboy . there has been some and still is some top flyers up here at the distance . hopefuly i,ll be the next one it wont be for the lack of trying .there is no one in this country in donaldsons leauge and remember we fly 600 mile plus up here not 4 to 500 mile .
BLACK W F Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Jims performances have been out of this world for years if you think there are any number of good fanciers who could do what he has i am sure they would easly get a hoose in peterhead and can try no del they move from up here t o where its easyer to win and there are plenty more good guys up this kneck of the woods but jims just in a league of his own and thats proven fact
robbiedoo. Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 your right there black wf there was a fanceir from up here that moved down to the south of the country to win the national and guess what he won the national good on him . donaldson is a one off think he has only failed to time in once in the last ten year from across the pond
BLACK W F Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 yes your right Robbie the facts remain if jim went down there it would only be a matter of time when he won it and how many he would win makes the mind boggle he is just a fantastic distance man problly one of the best in europe never mind th U K BUT WHITH OUT A SHADOW OF DOUBT THE BEST IN SCOTLAND jmo
Guest KING BILLY Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 yes your right Robbie the facts remain if jim went down there it would only be a matter of time when he won it and how many he would win makes the mind boggle he is just a fantastic distance man problly one of the best in europe never mind th U K BUT WHITH OUT A SHADOW OF DOUBT THE BEST IN SCOTLAND jmo i doo beleve jim donaldson is up thare with the grates of distance men but you will never make a 2 day bird into a 1 day bird and a lot of the big races down soth is won on the day so that rules him out ;) ;)
Delboy Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 disagree with you there delboy . there has been some and still is some top flyers up here at the distance . hopefuly i,ll be the next one it wont be for the lack of trying .there is no one in this country in donaldsons leauge and remember we fly 600 mile plus up here not 4 to 500 mile . I am not saying there isnt top fliers up there,( top doomen everywhere )what Im saying is, if the likes of Richard Combe, Jim Hannah, G.Rankin, P.Virtue, J.Hodgeson, were sitting in a loft next to him, then they would do same. IMO it is harder to fly a pigeon 550 miles into the west than 600+mls into the north east especially with the normal westerly winds. No question about the abilities of Donaldson, but definately not in a league of his own. ps. I know a guy that moved to Duns and was in top 20 open from Rennes immediately with a yearling. He hadnt scored in Rennes before and after winning out of turn, he moved back to the west and barely timed in .
clyde Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 yes the rankins must be top lofts at that distance
