Surely the equivalent of the malicious calls bureau operates in Ireland? And surely the police that you reported the loft break-in to would be interested in this especially as its now attempted extortion (spelling) with menaces?

Agree with the others ~ don't meet anyone on street corners. You are leaving yourself open there to absolutely anything, and you are also leaving your home unattended.

This sounds to me like locals. Your birds aren't that far away. Get the phone tapped asap & ask police for a special watch on your place.

I feel for ya Micko.  About 7 year ago my scooter was robbed.  I had it for only three months,  brand new and had saved ages for it.  over the next three days they was leaving pieces of it for me to find on my front garden.  I found out who took it and went looking for them .  This is the only language these people understand.

Sorry to hear about your problem Mick, re paying for the return I would just tell them them to neck them as if you pay it will be open season on your loft, sad but that is a huge possibility. Threats are a means of frightening people and if you live in fear of them they have won, 99.9% of the time they are never carried out because if I wanted to do something I would not alert you or incriminate myself. Defend you and yours as best as you can, if the scum bags are in that tiny minority that are willing to do it you won't stop them you can only deter them as best as you can.

I would do anything to help anyone but I have strong views and opinions and for that I have been threaten with my life and my property so I know how you feel, don't let them win by making you a prisoner in your own home.

Alert the cavalry but don't wait on them if you catch them deal with them as best as you can and deal with the consequences, they only act on evidence and take it further if they can secure a conviction, I have worked with the police on personal safety issues and you must play the scum bags at their own game"if you have a baseball bat then keep a base ball beside it" you and jack play all the time in the back garden, I know because I played with him last time I visited you. that is how the scum bags cover them selves and end up suing you for damages when you catch them

MY thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Mick and wish you all best

Duncan

Ghandi spoke a lot of sense in the 'Big Stick' scenario speech he gave. Whether between men or countries.

Now it is all very well and good having means, and inflicting self justice upon one IF they cower and are then frightened etc. If they don't scare easierly, or won't cower, or the case being may well come back harder will enforcing one to raise up the stakes higher, only for them to do likewise.

A fued, an never ending one has started.

Remember a fellow telling the harm he and a Wealthy man were going to pay to have pain and suffering inflicted upon my brother... I asked him WHO he if was going to pay to ensure the same wouldn't happen to them, indeed a few time more dramatic? Which I assured him thus would be the case!

Police / courts take a dim view of taking the law into ones own hands and pass what they hope are stiff sentences to deter others doing likewise. So never let the right hand see what the left hand is doing, and tell no one to ensure no one can tell.

But if they don't frighten, don't care, orare more than likely to come back at one, it is a very long and uncomfortable live. J.MO.

you really have missed the point. If you deal with this sort of scum you must play by their rules. "It was'nt me Gov", is part of the game.

You need to start to learn some of the phrases you must use. "Who me", "I was not there", "Look what he did to me", "I did not have a bat/stick, he brought that with him", and loads more. And it is about taking the inititive and keeping it. There is no percentage in sitting back and being a victim. Surely all anybody wants is peace and quiet to follow the gentlest hobby possible. My policy has always been to live and let live, but if you want to stir the fire you will be very likely to get burned. And Bullies need to be burned so that they can learn manners.

I've had to edit some of the posts for comments & language. I understand the emotion behind the issues raised in this thread, but old Scots sayings 'keep the heid' and 'screw the nut' spring to mind.

What if it is kids doig it will you still baseball bat them. There is other ways of protecting your self against scum rather than swooping to there level

CHAIRDE   FRIENDS

thank you for all the offers of help

and my apologies to Bruno for having to edited some of the replies

as we have read over this past few months lofts getting burned all over the place now some people (none fanciers) may think well that's not a big deal but if those same people had seen jack crying and hunting around for his grizzle them maybe they would see how horrendous these attacks and threat of attacks are there is no way I'm I going to buckle under this this is kids and as I said no one should do ANY THING ILLEGAL that said if someone is on your property threaten your family then in all fairness you should do what your conscience tells you

i find it hard to believe that some people think that by sitting back and waiting to catch them again is ok.

in the real world you have to get real and fighting back isnt an option!..its a nescessity!

in what ever way you fight back be it by law or by yourself they need to know you are not gonna stand back and let them get away with it.

ive lived by by the law and by my own means...9-10 the way of the law dont work!..and anyone who lives in the real world will know wot i mean ;)

if you give into bullies they will bully you all the more...give some of your own medicine back!...find a way.

its upto the individual which side of the law they stand on.

Buy CCTV from Argos for one in the back garden and back garden, try get a guard dog if you can, German shepherds / Rottweilers are the best for guard dog.

sorry to hear of this micko ,do what u have to do, but remember

there r others who can read these messages.

The scumbags could be reading this as we type, sit tight Mick somebody somewhere will chat and eventually you will get your people......I had something happen to me about 7 years ago I didnt say a word to anyone, then someone months later in the local asked me how I was after my unfortunate event, didnt take me long then to realise who was behind it and revenge was dished out.....The best bit of advice I can give m8 is what was given to me and I have passed on on here lots of times, get a set of baby monitors keep one in the loft and one next to the bed, you hear every noise possible then make sure you have something waiting as a suprise for them. ;) ;) ;)

Also i dont know about your garden layout but i would look at ways to make it difficult for these people to come back in the property - possibly anti vandal paint on the top of your fence along with them little discreet carpet grips. A lock on your gate with concrete and broken glass on top (maybe even that instead of carpet grips on fence) and a loud bell attached to inside of gate It will make your neighbours aware if your not about.

Check you local bylaws, carpet gripper, razor wire on fences or glass on walls must be inside your property and above 2m to protect the public and that includes your friends, family and visitors welcome or unwelcome. Rules/laws and rights are in place to protect us all and sadly it errs on the side of the ones that manipulate them the most.

CCTV cannot capture or record public property or others private property without a licence or permission if you are hoping that the police would act on it

I remember a case where the council applied vandal grease/paint to drainpipes and the thug slipped and injured himself and managed to sue the council as there was not adequate if any signs posted warning him :-/

Crazy but true :( :( :(

yes agree with dovescot, I was getting clouns in my back garden, so I used an old army one. with trip wires, very thin wire about 4 inch from the ground zig zagged, I also put some about 4ft high they were nasty, anyway I made enquiries and was told if anybody got hurt i would be charged, the old a mans house is his castle doesnt apply now, you should ask them in for a cuppa and have a talk with them, and say please dont do damage to my property  :P

I think I put my point over the last time I wrote on this subject. And to put the record straight, I am not about to injure children but I will not go soft on them either.

I have just had an incident here where I had to take positive action to protect both my reputation and my property. And as I have said before, the enemy of positive action is talking. And especially threatening. I have found over the years that a tight mouth is always best and the best way to threaten anybody is to let your reputation do the talking. There is an old saying that works for me. "A velvet glove over an iron fist".

So why not quietly go out and ask questions and listen to the answers. You can find out who you need to deal with because the clowns love to brag. They all do. And when you pick them off one at a time they will sing like canaries. Cowards always do.
