Guest mick bowler Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I use it with a bit of wood shavings and a layer of sand (on concrete floor) and i find it bril, keeps moisture level constant.

YES THINK THE WOOD SHAVINGS THROUGH IT HELPS IT TO STAY DRY. BUT STILL PREFER HEMP CORE LASTS MUCH LONGER
mackems Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 tried it found young birds eat it to small use belg wood chips spot on
Guest bakes Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 gets thumbs up for me been impressed haveing in down in my sections stan the man got me on it wouldnt use anythink else now ive tried hempcore found it stuck to the birds feet all i do is put layer down every sunday wrake it which inturn lifts the dropping scoop up the top layer and apply a new layer worst floor litter ive used is straw went everywere half of it was out side the loft instead of the sections. all the best
holmsidelofts Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Hi all. Ive been there, tried everything from straw, easibed, woodshavings, grid floors, but nothings beats some hard work and a scraper. I do use the versa laga loft dressing in my trays in the stock loft as i dont like spending to much time in there when they are siting as i hate birds coming off there nests, but as soon as the eggs hatch it will be back to the scraper. jas.
Guest lenwadebob Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I think it is cr@p. I use Hemcore mixed with cat litter 50-50
Tony C Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 More to the point the pigeons like it

IF MY BIRDS CAME OF THERE NESTS WHEN SCRAPING ROUND THE NEST BOWLS THEY WOULD NOT HAVE ANOTHER NEST, THEY SHOULD DEFEND IT WITH THERE LIFES jas.
holmsidelofts Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I agree but you always get one that does and its normally always your best pair for some reason. but i tend not to spend that much time in the stock loft, i feel they are better if you leave them alone. i like to spend the time with the babies, thats where races are won, building up the trust with the babies when they are young.
Guest IB Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I've had hemcore down on concrete floor now for 5/6 months, now at the stage that I just turn it over and re-spread. Dry, friable, and no unpleasant smell. Thats been only one bale, and still some left. I want to try Mark II version, instructions say add 5 litre of water per bale, when its on the floor. I want to add 5 litre Virkon to it while its still baled in the pack, and use it dry for everything, floor, nest boxes, nest bowls and baskets.
Guest puresoontjen Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 ive aways used easibed with wood shaveings done no harm to my y/bs
wilkins Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I think it is cr@p. I use Hemcore mixed with cat litter 50-50 thats what i use i find that the best litter i have tried nice and dry
Pigeondoll Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Used it this year over the winter, for the first time, will continue to use it. i personally felt that it took the chill out of the shed. I also found great help with the dark night as i dont get home till after 5ish which mean i only have time to clean out at weekend, Excellent stuff.

Same with us , in Scotland I tried everything you could possibly use and like you I went back to scraping out with a scraper, when I moved to England Liz always insisted that easibed was the best, I maintained it was a waste of time and money but she always wanted to use it so in the end I told her to use it in her lofts and I would scrape mine out, took me a fraction of the time it took her because she would pick the droppings off the floors every day then she started to favor just scraping the floors and now she insists she would never put anything else down on the floor and scrapes them every day , we do use columbine loft white though and that is just brushed into the floors, looks great , smells clean and costs very little, so she in now a convert to the scraper after years of easibed, the only place we use soft chip [ same as easibed ] is a little drop in the nest boxes around the nest bowls.
kingbilly2 Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 EASIBED THATS WHAT THE USED TO CALL MY OLD BIRD WHEN I WAS A LAD ;D ;D ;D
BLUERON Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I have to do my cleaning out at weekends so i put easibed down and take all out and put all new down and i found this works fine for our loft.
John k Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Also tried it all Easibedding Hemcore sand mixed it 50/50....Once they start dropping there guts on it becomes very messy as in sticking to your feet etc etc......I have now gone on to this stuff http://www.northerncropdriers.co.uk/megazorb.htm... So far i am pleased with it....Trial in error until you find something that suits :)..
